For the record, I've never missed watermelon. Can't stand the stuff. Never liked it, and at this point in my life I think it's a safe bet that I never will.
But I will support the right of anyone - black, white, Hispanic, Asian, or what have you - to enjoy watermelon if they so desire.

To be fair, not all watermelons are the same. If you get a hold of an over ripe, mushy one, or one that doesn't have much flavor, it can be like...well, it's not very good. But watermelon in general, is pretty darn good. Not my favorite melon, mind you, but on a hot 4th of July, who's gonna turn down watermelon ?

It's the flavor. To me, it tastes like cheap perfume. To be honest, there really aren't any melons I like - not the kind to be found on the produce aisle, at any rate!
Wife loves watermelon and cantaloupe, and I just... don't. I buy fresh pineapple on a semi-regular basis, and I can eat a whole one for lunch if given a chance. Peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, apples, bananas. Cherries. Berries. Right now I can find lots of berries at the market, and a few in my yard - I'm munching fresh mulberries and blackberries out of my yard right now, mixed with raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries. Yum!
But no watermelon. Sorry.

You may not have noticed, but if you kiss a girl on certain parts of her body, you just might get a taste of her perfume. And even Chanel No. 5 is none too tasty. ;)
But yeah, it's more of a "tastes like something else smells" thing. I don't like Dinty Moore Beef Stew because to me it tastes exactly like a wet dog smells. Well, that and it's Dinty Moore Beef Stew, so it's a safe bet that's not really beef in there!
