Hello Lili,
This change (having him NOT invent the web shooters) was a positive one for the sake of believability, to me.
Otherwise I have to believe that Peter Parker not only acquired many spider-powers except that one from a spider bite...
But I also have to believe he is a genius that the chem engineers at Dupont would envy...
Rather than just a bright young man.
I found the trilogy Parker the more believable of the two.

Pretty sure that in some of the incarnations of spider-man that the mythology states that he gained the knowledge of how to chemically create the webbing because of the spider bite. So, it's still kind of one of his super powers.

Different strokes, I guess, but I think a web shooter is more believable than a spontaneous orifice on the wrists that can projectile-vomit spidersilk and then fade from view until it needs to projectile-vomit more silk. I believe that even spiders don't quite have that.

Ive always found the mechanical web shooters pretty far fetched - even for a comic. Yeah, he's a science wiz - but one that miraculously comes up with this magical chemical solution that just happens to align perfectly with his new powers, that can do damned near anything he needs, but disolves into nothing as soon as he's done - PLUS he invents the ultra-advanced shooters themselves, which manage to have several functions which again align perfectly with his new powers....
And then never invents anything again - ever.
Right.
I thought making them organic - even if biologically misplaced, made a whole hell of a lot more sense in context, and was far more efficient story-wise.

That was the rationelle used in the 90's cartoon, but hasn't been used in any other version.

I just like it better because then you don't have the "when we feel like it we'll make spider-man run out of webbing to add some drama" junk. It only seemed to become an issue when spider-man was doing something boring.

I just like it better because then you don't have the "when we feel like it we'll make spider-man run out of webbing to add some drama" junk. It only seemed to become an issue when spider-man was doing something boring.
That is the one aspect about the mechanical shooters that I liked - that they could run out.
Granted, the device became a crutch just to add false drama, as you noted. But I do like the idea that Spidey has to use an element of strategy - he can't just waste webbing, and has to choose his applications, and has to pay a price if he misjudges - adding legit tension.
But yeah, all in all - I like the organics better.
