Those waters have been charted since time immemorial, there was no excuse for not knowing those rocks were there. And the crew totally screwed up because they hadn't done the safety drill with the passengers yet when this happened, they're supposed to do it within 24 hours of sailing but they didn't, cruise ships in the US usually do it before leaving port, that is what happened on my cruise, so we all got it out of our system and didn't worry about it because we felt confident about what to do just in case. Those people didn't need to die but they did and that is not okay. The Titanic happened a century ago this year, obviously this isn't anywhere as bad as that tragedy in regard to magnitude or loss of life but it isn't okay and be chalked up to human error, cockiness and bad planning too.

Riona, they've got 24 hours from setting sail to cover the safety drills, according to the news. They were three hours into their tour. Hey! THAT sounds familiar, too!

Oh Quicko, I didn't realize that they'd just set sail, they should totally adopt the idea of doing the drill right before they leave port, because that way they'll have it done before anything can go wrong.

Auraptor, you seem like a solid dude to me... a veteran, self-reliant, etc.? I been on a cruise and I didn't much care for the excess, the toadying, the luxury or the sheltered "excursions." You could treat yourself to an allyoucaneat meal at a local restaurant, spend an evening in a nice motel and you'd get the same experience.
