"Falling Skies" this Sunday on TNT

I skipped the show just based on the description. To me a small group of people trying to survive the alien apocalypse just doesn't cut it. From the description I read they should already be past the extinction threshold. So, who really cares how the last few humans spend their dying days? I'd rather see something along the lines of V but obviously written much better. At least then we're seeing how the entire human race deals with the introduction of aliens into our world.

The people this show is focused on are near Boston. Early in the episode it was stated they were breaking up into seven or eight different groups of no more than three hundred each. That's 2100-2400 right there, plus we saw another group not affiliated with them, and there are probably others around the area in hiding. It is logical to assume there are groups like this all across the world, estimates could vary from several million in the U.S. to several hundred million elsewhere, if not more.
That is not to say there aren't other huge plot holes lurking, but I don't think you can rightly say they are past the extinction threshold. And considering they were fairly cavalier in going about their business in broad daylight, there might not be that many aliens in the occupying force.

Probably just a half assed description I read then. I'm pretty sure it said something about them being the last humans on earth. Even still it doesn't sound like a very interesting setup for a show. I mean if the aliens really wiped out that much of the population already then I can't imagine a rag tag bunch of survivors are going to really have much of a chance.

In fact I'd love to see a series in which the humans don't survive. In other words, a tragedy.
Would be a welcome change from the usual "Humans get trampled underfoot, humans find crucial weakness overseen by the technologically more advanced aliens, and win in the end because of it".
Not to sound too pessimistic, but if aliens with a taste for colonisation suddenly appeared in the sky, I think they'd be far more likely to wipe all humans from the surface of the earth, than that a small group of humans would overthrow them.
I'm looking for some realism to go with my science fiction. Don't we all?

I watched part of this with Mom.
We, too, had a "meh" reaction, but are willing to watch a couple of more episodes because pilot episodes are often kind of boring while the characters are being established.
That being said.....did none of those survivors watch any of the Star Wars movies? You could take those two legged things down be tripping them with a cable or wrapping one around their legs.
We think the thing that will ultimately kill the aliens are diseases. They made a point in the first hour of noting that that was what happened to the Native Americans when the Europeans first arrived - disease killed great numbers of them.
Next, do the aliens not see well during the day when the big groups of people are moving around? What's up with that? Those 300 people are moving down the open roads. They might as well be waving big red flags saying "Here we are! We're over here!"Are the humans not familiar with the concept of "stealth"?
And let's do sneaky recon missions using really noisy motorcycles - the aliens won't notice those......
I hope they start writing much smarter scripts.

I'm afraid they still have to work with what they've got since the pilot, which means that both daylight migration and noisy recon will be there to stay.
By the way, didn't we see the really scary attack at night? I refer to the opening scene. Maybe the aliens attack at night, because they are not built to withstand daylight (I say this without having seen the full episode).

Not really. Then you just end up with ewoks beating up storm troopers and you sit there rolling your eyes about how silly it is. That's not drama that's completely unbelievable.
Though I personally don't mind the ewoks cause Star Wars isn't exactly a dramatic movie. It's more about cool action. Not the same as this show from what I'm reading.

This is where I'm at. I liked it ok, not fully entranced by it though. But if it can improve and the actors are good ( including Moon Bloodgood ) it's worth watching for the summer. I'm scrounging up scifi/scifantasy anywhere I can get it....some excellent like Game of Thrones....some so so like this.
The summer rolls on.
