I saw it and, while well acted, it was pretty cliche heavy. I will not watch it anymore. The big problem is that it ignores the fact that the high-tech aliens should have thermal and other sensors, at least equal to what humans have right now, that would make it extremely difficult for the survivors to remain undetected. Passable for anyone looking for science-fantasy rather than science-fiction.

Yes, the eschewed remaking Independence Day, and jumped to where the actual story is.

Not that there really is much story to it. Pretty bland and predictable so far.

Having watched no more than just past the 1/3 mark, I stopped watching.

Firstly, I really don't understand how the aliens could be very advanced (as they clearly are) and yet have such a fierce appearance (as opposed to our pretty meek appearance).

Sure, evolution happens differently elsewhere. even on our planet, things like flying and swimming are done in very different ways by different species.

But even so, you'd think that intelligence (of a degree which can make tools) would only come about when you NEED tools, which I highly doubt, by the look of these aliens.

Either the creators of the series didn't really study evolution (or basic biology) enough, or that was not their real exterior, and they are inside (which could be interesting, but doesn't look to be the case).

For some people, such a thing might not be a fun-killer, but it is for me.

I made it to the halfway point (one hour in), and I just couldn't take it anymore. A solid "meh...", indeed.

I've not paid enough attention, and likely won't, but any chance those aliens we've seen so far aren't the 'brains' of the operation ? I mean, these 'skidders' or what ever, could be the worker bees , maybe even from another conquered planet, and the 'smart' aliens are yet to be seen ? Just kinda agreeing w/ you, and hoping more thought went into this from the creators of the show than we're being shown so far.

I concur with all the "meh" comments. Didn't finish watching it, but I might later just to get a few more glimpses of Moon Bloodgood.

Some sites were given the first 6 episodes, and say things pick up a lot by episode 4, so I'll probably stick with it for a while. Not much else worth watching in the Summer anyway.

Hopefully it will, but I doubt I'll check back in. It just didn't grab me at all. Sci-fi on TV rarely does, really. And while it's true that there's precious little else on during the summer, this is my time to catch up on movies, documentaries, and - of all things - video games.

I spent most of the hour I watched of "Falling Skies" wondering if I wouldn't really rather be playing "Red Dead Redemption". Turned out, I really would!

If it ends up getting really good, I'll have to check out re-runs.

I think I should expand on my earlier post.

My view of aliens has been heavily shaped by "The War of the Worlds" (No, not the film, but the book).

In the book, it is explained that, since the aliens have a longer evolutionary path behind them, and therefore they are also more dependent on technology for a longer time than us, they have no need for arms or legs, or other appendages such as we do, and therefore they don't have them.

In other words, the aliens aren't bodies with a brain, but brains with a residual body.

Seeing as the aliens in Falling Skies fit the bill for being more advanced, they sure look like less technology defined creatures we know (such as spiders and dinosaurs).

But maybe those aren't the real aliens in command, which means the good stuff is yet to come. (Maybe the 8-legged aliens are merely engineered workers)
