I like "Vanishing Point", it has a story, it's not just a 2 hour car chase.
I also really like "Gone in 60 Seconds", the 1974 vertion, not the newer GCI crap.

I'm a big fan of 'Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry' myself.
Car chases don't get much more intense than this. And that ending....

Are Mad Max and Vanishing Point really car racing films? Aren't they films with car chases?
I'd say the same for Gone In 60 Seconds as well. If so then Ronin, Bullitt and many many others with great car chases could be considered.
If we stick to films that are strictly about racing then Le Mans is the best. McQueen rules and is a perfect example of a 'star'.
Grand Prix is great and I have to give a shout out to Days Of Thunder. Not my fave film by a long way but the racing is excellent.

Define "flick".
I'd submit for consideration Claude Lelouch's "Cétait Un Rendez-vous", a short (<10 minutes) film made in 1976.
No effects, no CGI, no stunt drivers - just one man, one camera, one Ferrari, and the city of Paris from a bumper's-eye view at high speed.
But yes, others include LeMans (great racing footage, but generally bad movie), Gran Prix, Ronin, Mad Max/Road Warrior, Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry, Vanishing Point (the original, not the Jason Priestly remake), Death Race 2000, and a host of others. THX 1138 has some cool stuff, just not enough of it.
I notice nobody mentioned "Driven". And I thank you for that. :)
As bad a movie as "Fast & Furious" was, it had some entertaining driving. Transporter, too (only it was a better movie).
ETA: There's also this one, featuring "The Black Devil" and a rush-hour excursion through Moscow via Yamaha R1. Enjoy. Have a change of undies ready.
