I love those because, like Bullitt, they're done without CGI, on REAL streets. Dangerous? Yes. But when done well, very cool to watch. These are better, thou.gh, because no editing is allowed, no stops, no second takes.
Oh, and nobody mentioned The Seven Ups yet. Good chase scene.

remember watching it as a kid and thinking no one was ever gonna be as cool as Steve Mcqueen...well apart from Paul Newman.

I have to go with Grand Prix. Le Mans was too documentary for me.

Ohhhh, man! I was 8 years old when Le Mans came out, and I became instantly obsessed with it, begging to go see it whenever I'd see it on a marquis. Must've seen it at least 10 times in theatres.
Then, when I found it on DVD, I put it on Loop for about 2 weeks, until my player burned out.
I even got the coffee table book on the making of it.

How about all those Burt Reynolds movies? SMOKEY & THE BANDIT, CANNONBALL RUN, HOOPER, STROKER ACE (fast cars and vintage Loni Anderson--how can you go wrong?)
Personally, I really like the (new) ITALIAN JOB, but I don't know if it really counts as a car movie.
And, okay, it's a TV show, but let's not forget DRIVE.
