I can totally see that bringing about some darkness.

In order of greatness

Season 3 yeah it was pretty much the best. Faith was a great way to show what Buffy could have become. The Mayor was hilarious. Angel was still around. Golden.

Season 2 Angelus, Spike, Drusila. Enough said.

Season 5 Initially Dawn was so much of a wtf moment that I was really ticked. Then when we found out she wasn't just some ridiculous "what you never noticed Buffy's sister before" addition it all started to sort itself out. I don't know why people hate on Glory. She was another funny yet dangerous villain. My biggest hang up for the whole season was that Buffy seemed to be killing those ren fair losers left and right. Then they talked about how she was too good to kill Ben.

Season 1 Obviously they had a low budget and not a lot of time to develop a big long story. Still the funny was there and buffy wore lots of boots and short skirts. Can't argue with that.

Season 7 There were definitely some issues in this one. Kennedy? What a disaster that was. Conversations with Dead People seemed like an awesome episode but then there was no payoff. A warning about Xander driving Dawn to safety? Really? I understand that they needed to introduce the potentials to get the finale lined up, but they were just a big ball of annoying most of the time. Plus they killed a nice hot one right off the bat. Basically is started out strong and ended with a wimper.

Season 6 The trio was a pretty awful idea IMO. The magic = drugs = bad thing was too heavy handed. Buffy and Spike never worked for me. That was just thrown in for the fanboys IMO. If it weren't for like 1 episode with evil willow and Once More with Feeling this would easily be the worst season.

Season 4 what a disaster this was. We trade Angel for Riley - fail. We trade Oz for Tara - mega fail. We find out the government has their own organization designed to study and fight demons. Makes it all too mainstream. High point was Faith's return. Hush was ok and all but I don't get the love fest over that episode. Like the Initiative this season should be buried and they should salt the Earth.

See, right here. What works for some, doesn't work for others.
I mostly liked the season- the main problem I had was

Yeah, it looked to be going somewhere big, and then, *reset button pushed*
It was like, they really weren't prepared to go global with future stories. Kinda make me wish it hadn't gone there at all.
The comics picked up on it bigtime, though...

Yeah, definitely the best (although my favourite was 7).
One thing though, why would anyone WANT to become a creepy giant worm-thing???

IMO, if Buffy had ended right there, it would have been awesome enough (as season 4 was iffy at times, and season five was my least favourite of them all). Luckily for ME, we got season 7.

Indeed Storymark I see that, but it just doesn't compare. None of it is as dark as being dead. Not for Buffy and not for her friends and it is they who seem the most shocked. And as for us the viewer well we're happy to see Buffy back so her canoodling with Spike is a bit like:

"Sure go do your thing..."

Wait what! I'm supposed to be disgusted... Why? We had a Slayer kill a guy already. She's gone rouge and fighting her demons in 'Angeland'. It is not that bigger deal that this slayer is messing with Spike....Was it really that dark?

Nicely summed up Zeek.
I agree with pretty much all you said there.

Oh and you must be talking about MOLLY from season seven right? I kinda liked her too. Damn shame :D

My DVD history with Buffy:

After getting Firefly, I was intrigued by Buffy, so I bought the first season. Crude FX and VHS-like picture did not take away from the fact that it was well written, so I got the second season.
I enjoyed Spike & Dru immensely, and weighed whether I should get the next season. It wasn't a hard choice.
Season 3 was all colourful & sharp-looking & such! What an awesome ride!!
I then found season 4 on sale used, and snapped it up. Different, but good. Had some misgivings...

So, I bought season 5.
Whoah, majorly bummed. Not liking it too much...

Around then another DVD set was coming out (I think it was Brisco County Jr, or maybe something else...), so I sold Buffy 1, 2, & 5 to finance the new purchase.
THEN the Chosen Collection was on sale, so I sold seasons 3 & 4 to help pay for it.
I had been warned on this very site that season 6 might be hard to get through, but I found that season 5 was what gave me problems. I grooved on 6. And 7? Well you know how I feel about that.

Then Star Trek remastered season 2 (my favourite season) came out, so I sold the Chosen Collection, and with the extra $$ after buying Trek, I got season 6 & 7 of Buffy, and the Spike DVD collection.

I watched most seasons of Buffy at least 3 times, 5 times for #3, and 6 or more for #'s 6 & 7.

Well, that's my history with Buffy.

In case anyone's interested.

Nice history of Buffy Chris. I remember egging you to purchase those DVD's.

Like to think I did some good in the world :D

My history goes thus:

A good friend (also called Chris by the way) says to me:
"Ric watch Buffy!!!"
I'm like:
"Balls to that! I saw the flick and it was bobbins!"
So friend says:
"No Ric - WATCH Buffy. It's WAY better than the film."
Me thinking to myself - What TV show is better than the film? When did that ever happen?
"Nah you're yanking my particulars! Leave me alone"
Time passes. Friend calls me up.
"Dude switch on your f***in TV!"
I do. I catch 'The Harvest'. I see Buffy in a Prom Dress with a Crossbow!
"What the ?! This is actually pretty good! and how come this Xander dood is almost as bad with the ladies as I am...?"

Fast forward a few years:
Me:
"Chris I just had a crappy day at work and to cheer myself up I bought Seasons One,Two & Three. Come over for a week and we'll watch the lot!"
After that I was pretty much pre-ordering seasons, and inviting several friends whom I'd converted, to come over and watch Buffy.
