I'm a fan of David Cameron as a 'Liberal Conservative', and I like his Big Society vision (I almost posted about it on this board, but doubted whether Americans would be interested in it). It seems like a good philosophy on the role of government, and he describes it as one of the things that 'fires him up' in the morning, and one of the ways he can leave his mark on the country. Still not sure exactly what it entails, but I'm on board - I think.

Well as an American politician he would probably be a moderate democrat I would say - keep in mind that the significance of calling for spending cuts and a reduced government role depends on the nature of the government of the country you are in...

As for his liberal credentials, it's still pretty wait and see; but he claims to be environmentally conscious (not a climate skeptic), is an avowed fan of Polly Toynbee (liberal social commentator and Guardian columnist), described Gaza as 'a prison camp'...

Basically the Conservatives were unelectable for ten years after Tony Blair's 'New Labour' moved to the centre, and Cameron is someone with some core conservative principles, but who can also appeal to the centre. That's how I see it anyway.
