A little grass, a little beer, never really hurt anyone. They live in Detroit for Christ's sake, they need and deserve their little buzz, their little life enjoyments. On the day Obama visited a while back, they rolled 'em a little fatter, and drank a little harder. Did you see how happy Obama was at the wildly cheering crowd? That's a win these days. The auto bailouts were tiny compared in size to the Wall Street bailouts.

I drank VO and Coke and operated heavy machinery for years and had no problems. It was only after I started working in a union shop it became a problem. Turns out that union shops are very strict about drinking on the job and the only help the union will give you if you get caught is to try and get your employer to pay for a treatment program. Screw the damn union shops, drinking on the job is a constitutional right and so is getting fired for it.
ETA: If you do drink on the job I recommend counteracting the depressive effects of alcohol with a few Black Beauties.

Umm, those guys are lightweights compared to the floor crews who built the Focus, not only was there plenty of boozing, but there were racial issues, some sexism, a couple brawls on the floor, lots of horseplay, and a very slapdash, unprofessional environment which was partly the union being unable to find anyone to work the plant cause being with Ford meant no job security, and partly cause the plant management wavered between the four martini lunch and aristocratic despotism - which you can maybe get away with in China or Mexico, but here in the states just encourages your employees to fuck off on the job since they're gonna be outsourced and dumped anyway, and their benefits are gonna get ditched via the spinoff-bankruptcy-liquidation exploit, so why should they give a shit about the quality of the product when as soon as the run is finished, they'll be outta work and unable to afford one ?
And of course, assembling shitty chinese parts in a US plant and calling it american made was insult to injury for UAW drones anyway.
As a result, the Focus is a piece of shit, not that something that poorly designed woulda been all that hot even if it WERE put together right.
You reduce your workers to peons, they're gonna act like this, gimme any kinda reason why they wouldn't ?

These 'workers' are there because they wanted to be there. They aren't slaves, and can leave any time they want. Yet, in this economy, I suspect they're making a little more than what the Gov is paying their out of work neighbors....

They should start paying the CEO and the board members a salary based on what the average line worker earns, and tie their benefits together as well. Oh, and institute the exact same alcohol and drug-use policies across the board. No booze at lunch for ANYONE.
Heck, maybe we should bring back blue laws, and just outlaw the sale of booze anywhere in the country between the hours of 8am and 6pm... ;)

Boy, talk about not having anything to do with anything. Name me a single current head of a major U.S. automaker who had anything to do with starting the company. Hell, the vast majority of them never even worked in the companies they're now supposed to run.
