Hell, I been sayin that all along too - problem is most folks are so damned partisan about the issue that they just flat plain tune out anything that doesn't support their own position.
I mean, were we to rebuild our society to a sane and humane standard, this'd be a moot point cause you'd rarely if ever actually *need* one for self-defense - but even then having that right handy as a check against tyranny ain't a bad idea neither, and it's not like even were we to have a sea-change of social viewpoint tomorrow that society would come any time soon...
And yet, adding more guns to the equation may TEMPORARILY abate the problem, but it'll never fix it, cause it never addresses the social, emotional, and mental causes that lead to violent confrontation over resources, it just levels the playing field a bit, and not necessarily in the right direction, cause the same blaster which gives a little old lady better odds against a young tough thug, can also give some puny little junkie better odds against me.
Sure, OVERALL people are decent, and levelling the field gives them a better chance, but it's treating a symptom, not the cause, a short term plan for a long term problem, bandaid on a bullet wound, cough syrup for tuberculosis...
So while I am right bloody fond of the second amendment to a degree that makes even most other gun bunnies lift an eyebrow, I have never seen it as the end-all-be-all solution any more than I would see using a thicker grade of oil as a solution to a set of worn piston rings.
It's not the guns that make a society safe, it's not the lack of guns that make a society safe - it is the degree of humanity, compassion and sanity that do - always has been, always will be.
And till preying on your fellow man for kicks or gain is seen with the same degree of horror as infanticide and cannibalism, we're not gonna see that kinda change.

Actually, Kane, I think Anthony is quite universally respected here by people on all sides of the political spectrum. Sorry you disagree with his idea of actually taking in data and examining it.
