A well armed society is a polite one.

"Hey Ant,
Its easy to explain.
Crack."
Hello,
That actually doesn't help the case. Or explain much on its own. 1984 was the start of the 'crack epidemic' and has a much lower murder rate than 1980.
If guns were the single most important contributing factor to murder rates, then no other factor could have created such incredible volatility and variability in the rates. But we do see this volatility even when gun ownership has no such volatility. Hence, other factors must be responsible to a greater degree than gun ownership.
I don't know why there's resistance to the idea that a single solution (more armed folks) isn't the magic button to get a better society.

It becomes more an more obvious to me everyday.
"Gun control" means keeping guns out of the hands of black and brown people. But since politicians can't come right out and say that, or make laws to do so... they have to hide behind bs ideologies saying "guns kill people".
Prove me wrong.

"Hate to burst your bubble, but if you agree with liberal positions enough times you become a liberal. I personally don't believe you ever were a conservative"
Hello,
I wonder what the magic number is. How many times do I agree with a party before I become infected with their title?
And while I hold many conservative beliefs, no, I'm not a conservative, either.
So is it not just the issue of crime where you feel everything belongs under a single label? Do you feel the need to label me as a particular single thing, too?
I have at times agreed more or less with both Republicans and Democrats, Liberals and Conservatives, but I spent most of my life registered as neither. As a fireflyfan, the term will be familiar to you. 'Independent.'
It means I don't have to buy into anyone's idiocy wholesale.

When I hear some of these discussions of what a good [polite] society should be, I hear quite a lot of fantasing about the perfect society, a lot of it based on some rose coloured nostalgic ideal of what life was like in periods of time such as Japan under the Shoguns, the Wild West, or the days of Knights and chivalry. It seems to me that the times were most people were armed were also the most unstable, the most warlike, where rule by force was applicable. I dobn't think they would have been wonderful places to live, but we do fantasise about them from our largely safe, regulated lives because they seem exciting.
In Boot Hill there are over 400 graves. It takes
the space of 7 acres. There is an elaborate gate
but the path keeps to no main route for it tangles
like branches of a tree among the gravestones.
300 of the dead in Boot Hill died violently
200 by guns, over 50 by knives
some were pushed under trains–a popular
and overlooked form of murder in the west.
Some from brain haemorrhages resulting from bar fights
at least 10 killed in barbed wire.
In Boot Hill there are only 2 graves that belong to women
and they are the only known suicides in that graveyard

It's easy to explain if what you're after is an easy explanation that backs up your preconceived notions, and you don't really care about facts, data, research, or analysis, you mean.

That could actually be equally applied to you, Kirk, with just three simple changes:
Hate to burst your bubble, but if you agree with fascist positions enough times you become a fascist. I personally don't believe you ever were a conservative, your phony ploy to bring conservatives to your fascist way of thinking by pretending to be one of them has failed.
Yup, that's as accurate as anything you've ever posted here.

I've never noticed the part of the federal background check paperwork where it asks you your race. Similarly, none of the gun bans I've seen listed race as one of the factors of implementing said ban.
I'd say the onus of proof is on you, since you claim that all gun control legislation is about keeping weapons out of the hands of black and brown people. Prove yourself right. Not with the JFPO's propaganda piece that you always post up, because that's not any kind of unbiased example. Prove it with FACTS, not with propaganda. I dare you.
I fucking double dare you.

Quote:Well let's turn that statement around. If you are a 20 yr old fuckwit with no social skills, no respect for your elders and intent on gaining your "respect" by fear tactics, owning a gun gives you that feeling of being a "real hard man". We have that loud and clear in this country(Britain) and I am quite happy to take away the right of that little fuckwit to have any kind of firearm. The little sod can learn that respect the hard way, thank you very much.As for gun v knifefight. It takes a lot more guts to walk up to somebody and physically stab them;it takes no bravery at all to shoot someone from a distance and walk away without a second thought. So I don't think it makes society politer, it just makes it easier to kill someone and then preach justification.

But, at the end of the day, firearms rights exist in YOUR culture and that's YOUR business.Just as here, you will find that the VAST majority of us choose to keep our gun laws as tight as we possibly can thank you.And that is OUR business.
