I stopped reading a year or so back, and I hear the end of season eight is near. Anyone got reviews of how it's going?

In my opinion, increasingly ridiculous, unfortunately. The story seems to get more over-the-top with each arc. I was a big supporter of the series, and defended the necessary change in tone when the medium changed (and still do), but every issue seems to distance it more and more from that old Buffy charm.

Still and all, though, I'm definitely curious to see how Season Eight wraps up, and also if there will be a Season Nine (if so, I kinda hope they get back to the basics of character-centric stuff).

I'm only up to the second book of season eight. Really enjoying the "Faith based" stuff tremendously. It helps that she was my favorite during the regular series also. Kinda wishing for more of her in future Buffy & Angel books.
Speaking of over-the-top, I think Angel season six fits that description very well. I understand there are things that can be done in graphic novel format more easily than on the screen, but just because one can doesn't mean one should!

CIS: You're welcome!

NM: I agree with you about ANGEL: AFTER THE FALL. Definitely over the top and into "comic book-dom." Problem is, by the time you get to Book six, seven, eight, of B:S8, it's starting to make ANGEL look realistic!

If you're only at Book 2, I agree with you that B:S8 is good stuff. If I recall correctly, it's around the time they go to Tibet that it starts to kinda fly off the rails.

It was the "Fray" arc that sort of weirded me out of liking it... that & Giant Dawnzilla.

Indeed. And he's not the only vampire with a soul to make a return visit...

I'm up to about vol. 7 in both Buffy and Angel, and I've enjoyed both series quite a bit. I rather enjoy the over-the-top nature sometimes, letting them tell stories on a scale they never could before. I look forward to more.
