TV
The star trek shows after the Shatner series.
Dr Who. Not because it's bad, just.. it's done now.
Any medical drama! Just can't sit through that stuff.
British TV shows redone by American networks. The Office, Life on Mars etc...

Films:
Anything by:
Darren Aronofsky (Watched Requeim for a Dream and that was it! Utter crud!)
Lars Von Trier (uses taboo subjects to compensate for lack of ability)
Oliver Stone (ideology clouds his creativity)
David Cronenberg (I gave the guy a chance but he's just a hack!)
and...
Most musicals. Frankly there's been little need for them since Singing in the Rain. Except the Blues Brothers of course..

I'll second that about Brit TV shows being redone by the US. Sorry but you just don't get it. Thank some almighty deity that Red Dwarf US didn't go anywhere.

I avoided Requiem for many years as I saw it as arty crap. Finally relented a couple of years ago and immediately wished I hadn't bothered.

Is the Blues Brothers a musical?
I don't consider it so. Like The Commitments it has a lot of music in it sung by the cast, but to me a musical has to use song to explain the plot and move it forward in some way. The Blues Brothers doesn't do this in a way that musicals do. Yes their songs make a point but not relating to the plot.

You see! You see! How right you were all those years NOT watching requiem for a dream!!!! Trust your instincts. As some little bug eyed green muppet once said:
"It serves you well!"
As for Blues Brothers. The film does describe itself as a Musical Comedy, so y'know. I have to really consider it as such, and I'd say for the most part the songs do further the plot - for me anyway.

Lies! I demand proof. And if you say you predicted an eye closing then you predicted nothing. That's like saying "credits rolling" is the ending to every movie. That's not an ending to the plot that's an image.

However being a dog lover and far too sentimental for my own good self, the way Vincent came to lie down next to Jack as he was about to die - well frankly that got me. One of my favourite endings to anything ever! Right up there with Buffy.

We seem to be agreeing on things.

I too loved the ending, especially the bit in your spoilers . On this site we seem to be in the minority though. Maybe it's a US versus UK thing?

I know on other sites I've visited the opinion on Lost is very much divided and I can understand why some feel cheated and let down. But I don't agree. My current feeling on how people react to the ending is down to what they expected to get from the show. Some appear to want everything answered clearly and some are willing to take things as they are. Kind of like the science and faith motif running through the whole show.
And I'm not singling anyone out on this site, as I said I can understand your point of view.

As for Chris I do seem to remember a thread many moons ago that was talking about Lost and he did say something about the ending. It may have been during the second season but if someone is willing to dig it up it might give us some proof.

I agree with you on Lost. I find it a curious thing though. I have friends who hated it for most of the time it was on, because they didn't know where the heck it was going. Yet those same friends are now disappointed because it ended how they were expecting it to end?!
We are all due a get together very soon and I already know there's a mamouth Lost debate on the cards. Which I think is great! There's no other show that fires up that kinda passion in us, so it must have done something right.

As for Chris... He knows his onions. I'm sure he mentioned something about the ending eons ago too. However I always thought the LOST quandary of Fate vs Free will, Science vs Faith would have been something he would have relished, which was why I also tried to convince him to watch Lost.

Oh well.

And about Lost's ending, years ago I think my exact words were " I bet they're dead, and in Purgatory or something."

Nope....
Everything on the Island happened. Purgatory is where they were once the Island had been saved by Jack - AFTER he dies with Vincent by his side....
But it's more a sort of waiting 'realm' you conjure for those that you were connected to in your 'real' world life, in order to go to the next stage together.

Well that's as I see it anyway. As I like that notion.
