Like McCoy said; It's an obsession.

I should talk. I wargame a couple of different periods. We paint lead figures and do battle on a table. I take such pride in my units. Napoleonics has such colorful and detailed uniforms. The Union infantry of the American Civil War dark with blue coats and black belts. One is so bright and the other dull, but it does not matter. The time spent painting them gives me such pride placing them on the field of battle. Now you know my obsession.

It is so strange. Napoleon wore a very plain uniform, but he had his marshals in gold braid. Murat was the worst. He was a fashion whore.

One Murat's tamer uniforms.
He was made king of Naples. Can you imagine the uniforms in that army.

And because I went off topic.

I think the best uniform for Federation crews was the dark red introduced in "The Wrath of Khan".
The later uniforms in "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager" take a close second best.

My favourite uniforms are...
in JJ's new movie! Really- classic look, but with believable tweaking.

I was glad to see the kept with the original uniform. And, as you say, the tweak was just enough.

But in general, these were my favourite uniforms of all time:

Sigh.... I was 13....

Okaaay, now we're workin on seperated at birth or something, Traveller!

I got Warhammer 40K and Epic Space Marine armies, of course, right lot of em, since I played that up till their cult-like behavior started to really wig me out...

But yeah, I also do civil war, a smallish combined arms unit known as "Butlers nuts" (a pun on the color of the jackets, which are sort of a brownish color, don't ya know...) which I've used in larger battles to great effect against the infantry-heavy Union forces.

Shotgun & pistol cavalry, couple snipers, a couple platoons of skirmishers and a rather fine set of 12 pounder Napoleons which used to belong to some yankees who didn't think to guard the railroad switches, meh heh.

It's very strange that we share so many common interests though, innit ?
