this thread has been so very interesting to read!

I'm a music teacher/freelance musician. I teach private violin and viola lessons, and I play in several symphonies and a string quartet in my area.

I would so take violin lessons if I could play lefty, but I don't think they make those *frown*

Avery: yes, hockey rules. Never was a fan of field hockey because of the running, but skating, WOOT! gliding feels almost like flying ^_^

Have you tried traditional four wheel skates (as opposed to roller blades)? As I find they are more stable. That said, it definitely takes a while to "find your feet" as my coach put it. A few months in, I'm much more steady that I was at the beginning, but I still crash into things (and people) from time to time

My problem with my job is that's I've become spoiled: I make a very decent amount of money, plus benefits, a fantastic pension plan and five weeks of paid holidays a year. It's hard to find that kind of deal outside of a traditional nine to five. Plus, I really like what I do. I just wish I could do it from twelve 'til eight... Thanks for the suggestions though.

weird that there are so many accomplished people, from so many walks of life, with such bad taste in sci fi.

i'm a reaver. well, an unenmployed, pre-mutilation reaver, but reaver is most certainly my dream job.

for the time being, i'm a student who doesn't have to go to class. i extern for a federal judge, and post bar, hope to either a) continue being a useless clerk or b) keep your streets full of drunk drivers and drug addicts.

the only skates I've tried are ice skates and my 1980's four wheelers: tragic balance on both. I've not tried roller blades. Its not a lack of confidence issue...I could keep falling and it wouldn't bother me, but falling ain't skatin . I think it's the balancing and coordinating movement at the same time factor that causes the problem. I fall over or miss step and stumble at least twice a day and regularly sway into stuff I'm trying to avoid and thats just walking at a normal pace. I am a graceful swimmer though.

Well at least you're a grateful swimmer 'cause I SUCK at swimming. I go farther and faster just kicking my legs than using my legs in conjunction with my arms, oddly enough.

Vixen: I have a very strong hate for traditional roller skates (but certainly no offense to your preference for them). All I did was fall down on them. Thank God for strong bones or I might've broken something--like my poor mother did when she fell trying to skate on a pair.

I much much prefer roller blades. Way more stability (for me anyway) and a lot more fun, much more fluid to glide on. easier to stop when you don't have to tip onto your frakin' toes to use the brakes @_@ Hell I even learned how to skate backwards eventually ^_^

my brother's left-handed and plays just fine. I teach both left-handers and right-handers. They all do great.

If you have an issue with your left hand (like missing fingers or something), you can get a custom-made violin for playing. All they have to do is switch around the insides and the strings.

well see I play guitar lefty, so I pick with my left hand and use the fretboard with my right hand. Do they make lefty violins or is that a custom order type thing?

Well...done a few things. However, the current trend of my employment appears to be Customer and Technical Support, since I world for Bell Canada's satellite television division aiding customers in their service needs. Not a horrid job, mind you...just get to encounter the darker sides of human nature when things go all 'blooey.

And for hobbies and interests? Let's see...literature, video & computer games (loving my Xbox 360 lots but not enough time to play and too many games to choose from, honestly), fanfic of different flavours and types (Flanfic is still #1 if I can get at it

) and anything computational.

I get the computer and video game thing. I really do. I had one of the old X boxes when they came out. I spent every extra minute with it playing Halo and Jade empire. I started skipping other activities etc etc. I eventually got rid of it when I did a straight 49 hour stint on it and was only bothered by the fact when my housemate gave me a berating. I just have no self control when it comes to games. I only have boring ones on my computer. I have also deliberately refrained from allowing myself to learn all but the bare basics about computers as i know I'll get hooked. I know just enough to get through my course run necessary programs and handle emails/communication etc. I recently had pre-paid broadband installed. the only thing that keeps me from being on the net all the time is how much it costs.
