I'm really confused here. Didn't the pilot come out on the internet in the spring of '09 ? And then already on SyFy over Christmas ? I caught the 2 episodes On Demand, so is that what will be shown on Friday ? Or will it be a brief recap of the 2 hour pilot, and then the commencement of the series.

What's the story here ? Why so many pilot/ premiers does a series get ?

What they will broadcast Friday is an edited version of the DVD that was released last April. What they made available online a few weeks ago was also edited (nudity) but was an "extended" version of what you will see on TV. I can understand the longer, NSFTV version on DVD, but it didn't make sense for them to release it so far in advance of the broadcast premiere. Most everyone who's interested has seen it already. The first episode beyond this film will be on next Friday, Jan. 29.

I liked the pilot, and was a big BSG fan, so I'm looking forward to it.

FYI for those interested, Moore is only showrunner for the first handful of episodes, at which point Jane Espenson takes over.

And as the the odd release schedule.... For one, SyFy likes experimenting with thier launches a bit, so that's part of it.

But mainly, they only shot the pilot, then waited to see how the final season of BSG did in the ratings before greenlighting the series. By the time BSG was ending, they greenlit the show, but also wanted to capitalize on the press they got for the BSG finale, so they released the pilot on DVD to keep the momentum flowing from one series to the next. Whether that was a good idea remains to be seen.

It's on the DVD version. But like The Plan, it's all from just extras, none of the main characters.
