That's the tantalizing hint presented by FX president John Landgraf, speaking with reporters on Sunday and saying that he's having lunch with the creator of Dollhouse and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Here's how the Futon Critic Web site reported it:
"Actually his representatives called and scheduled a lunch, I think I'm supposed to have lunch with Joss in the next two or three weeks," FX president John Landgraf told reporters when asked about working with the cult-favorite producer during the network's executive session at the TCA this morning.
Dollhouse ends with a series finale, "Epitaph Two: Return," on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

FX might be a much better fit for Joss. Edgier, grittier, smaller (but more hardcore) audiences, etc.

I know that I, and a few others here, have felt that Joss's shows are better suited for cable TV. I'm curious to see where this goes.

Dear fluffy lord please let this happen.
I've always thought that Joss' work was a little too highbrow for network TV. Buffy and Angle were pretty accessible, but Firefly showed some high concept tendencies and Dollhouse was just in a league of it's own.
Cable networks like FX have more freedom, less pressure, and audiences who are pretty passionate and eager for good writing.
Gah he should have made the jump a few years ago.

While I think Joss' serialized style is a better fit for cable.... cable tends to have much smaller budgets. I wouldn't hold my breath for another series set in the 'verse.

Heck, man - that's not a sign of the Apocalypse. That's just a sign of good taste! When it comes to more Jossiness and more Firefly on TV, I think we're probably going to ALWAYS be in agreement! :)

But cable is indeed where the best writing is being found these days. And FX isn't exactly "low budget" when it comes to original programming, having offered up such fare as Damages, The Shield, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, and others. I'd be willing to bet that a show set in the 'verse of Firefly could be done semi-cheap, too. 'Course, you'd probably have to lose most of our Big Damn Crew, since they seem to be kind of in demand on other shows now...
But this is do-able. That's what I'm going to keep telling myself. :)

Yeah, writing thrives on cable, which is why I said it'd be a good fit.
But seriously....all those shows you mention are good shows - but none of them are in the ballpark of a science fiction show, budget wise. They are all character dramas - which are comparatively cheap.
You seem to be equating budget with quality, but that's not nessesarily true.
Spaceship sets are more expensive than a doctor's office. Costumes that must be designed and made from scratch cost more than ones that can be purchased. CG shots cost a lot period, and those other shows have few or none. Even the restrained action on Firefly is bigger than action beats on most of those other shows.
Sure, there are ways to cut corners and such, but a show like Firefly is almost always going to cost more than a show like Damages.
