I vote for b6cc. And wow. And how.

How much to charge... well, being an engineer and all, you could come up with a number, but you may not like the result if you work it back to dollars per hour! Could be a scary prospect, given a throw-away society and China.

I think the upshot is to know how much material cost there is, how long it takes, and what the market will bear; versus how much you need to make, free and clear of all other costs.

A friend of mine makes custom leather sight hound martingale collars. When he started out, he took a W.A.G. at pricing *snort*. He hung it up at one point citing that he had no time and made no money. We talked about it a bit, and made a list of costs (time and money). We both came up with things the other did not think of. Then we pulled out a calculator. It came to light that he was making negative dollars per hour! No wonder they sold so well, eh? He's back into it now. Sales are way down, but "profits" are up!

I spoke with my friend. She said it's a perennial bitch to figure out prices.

Turns out she makes about $5 an hour when all's said and done, but if she asks for more people think it's overpriced. She says people seem to think 50 cents an hour is fair wages.

She said Etsy was good, and suggested you check out Scuttlebutt (online) and a magazine for artists I've completely forgotten the name of but I think it had the word "calendar" in it.

HK: Me, I like S2BB the best. It shows off the most of your objects, skills, and styles, it seems, while keeping your trademark (013) small and subtle, almost an inside joke as it were.

Also, B6CC has a wonderful graphical layout, the way everything seems to have the same lean angle in that one.

By the way, calling your online store Warehouse 013 might be a perfect fit, since that show (Warehouse 13) has a steampunk-y feel to it. But you might not want yourself associated with it; I don't know.

Anyway, once you put stuff up and start selling, let us know. I love your work. It's beautiful stuff, and I love the rugged hand-made look of it. Wish I could afford to contract you to do me a cover for my iPod...

When it comes to commissions for tech mods, though, I really don't think it's possible for me to make anything for something that I don't actually own. For my MP3 player, I used it every step of the way for measuring and fitting. That's the only good way of making sure all the access ports are accessible and the screen isn't partially covered.... I have been thinking about picking up broken tech, though, so I could at least have templates available if someone should ask for them. A bunch of my friends want me to start making iPhone cases, so I may end up doing that sooner rather than later. ((shrug))...

Aaaaaand... For my pocket watch, I finally got around to making a chain for her. Assembled from a bunch of found bits. It was odd working with silver and silver-coloured things again (yep, I even had to make the key for winding and setting the watch). I love it when old tech continues to work. Especially when it's just as good as the day they set it in motion.

(With the exception of Mayan Giant Killer Robots...those can completely fail to work and I'm OK with it.)

I always kinda wanted a wind up pocket watch... there's just something cool about them. They'd go well with my monocle and top hat too. Ok I dont really own a monocle and top hat... but someday I might.
