On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate Abrams' Trek no higher than a 3. And I'm being generous with that.

Y'know... I had heard so many negatives about this film I was actually leery about seeing it. I not a huge Star Trek fan. I liked some of the movies but never really followed the series.

That said... I liked it! In fact I liked it alot.

The actor that played Bones did an exceptional job! Kirk was a little over the top for my liking but not detractingly so.

You know what movie I started to find a connection to? C'mon, I know you do... I actually found this reminded me a little of Serenity. I suspect it was the way it was shot.

But good pizza is still way better... there's wings with that good pizza right?

I got dragged to it out of obligation, but I have no regrets, it was substantially better than I expected.

Pine as Kirk completely nailed it, come on, let's admit it - Kirk is an obnoxious jackass, and Pine brought his A game to the party with that one, larger than life, full of himself to a grating degree, and absolutely determined not to lose.

Karl Urban as Bones, now that was eerie, you'd almost swear that WAS Deforest Kelly, I've never seen a homage so bloody perfect, I don't think, he even got the unique manner of speaking and cadence down to a flawless degree, he *worked* that one, I can only imagine the effort that took.

Spock was solid, I was impressed, but there just seemed to be some small slice missing, though I cannot put my finger on it, really.

The guy playing Chekov, he was a bit harder to take, right up to the "Transporter Lock" moment, in that instant he *DID* convince me, and the guy playing Sulu pulled off a properly subdued but younger Sulu quite well, given that the character was a bit reserved, yet threw in a youthful exuberance which a younger Sulu certainly would have possessed.

About the only one I would take issue with, even mildly, was Scotty, but he also didn't get enough screen time to make as much of an impression, jury is still out on that one.

Special effects were good, a little too much of that hard zoom high speed michael bay "blur" going on, but not quite as bad as usual with that style.
(What kinda moron thinks it makes sense to spend unholy amounts of money on special effects that wind up a blink and you miss it smear on the screen?)

Not overall impressed with the ship designs, the bridge looked even less practical than the originals, the idea of freestanding vertical objects on a starship bridge just grinds my gears.

I would definitely give it a B+ overall, however, which comin from me is certainly high praise for a series I often refer to as Star Drek...

But really, it was Pine as Kirk that did it.

I understand that take on it- at moments I almost feel that way m'self, but I can't deny how much fun I have watching it.
Okay, so, shallow, no message, no Kirk moral speech at the end, curved nacelle struts...

It was Zack's voice, it lacks that raspy quality. Quinto should talk to Christian Bale on that.

You HAVE to wonder if perhaps Kirks personality didn't have something to do with WHY they sent him way out in the back of beyond to explore the frontiers..

Can you *imagine* dealing with him on a daily basis at Starfleet HQ ?

He'd be assassinated in less than a week!

I *loved* it. To me, it's the best Trek in a long damn time. If this is a complete reboot of the whole series, I'm in.

As a Star Trek movie, I give it a solid 9 out of 10. This is the ONLY Trek movie I've ever seen that actually had me on the edge of my seat, squirming in my seat, actually wondering if they were going to survive the fight on the "drill" - and knowing, of course, that they HAVE TO - but it still made for some damn fun and tense watching.

Action-wise, it's the best Trek I can imagine. STORY-wise, though, it's not up to "Khan". But what is?
