Funny that no one mentioned Uhura yet though. I thought Zoe Saldana did a good job of playing Uhura, bringing youthfulness to the character, as well as pay proper homage to Nichelle Nichol's portrayal. But that's my opinion. Any thoughts?
Otherwise, good show, albeit a little lite.

I had the same reaction. Maybe I'm just not used to Uhura being... well... sexy. Not to say Nichelle Nichol wasn't/isn't a sexy woman, just that her character was very rarely portrayed as anything other than 'one of the guys'.
I'm on the fence on how I felt about Scotty, Chekov and Sulu.
I kinda liked the ship. If only Star Trek creators could EVER be consistant with their scale. If nothing else, they are consistant at being inconsistant, no matter who helms the script or direction. They constantly sacrifice scale for what looks pretty on screen.
I hate to say it but Kirk is only 4ft tall

Karl Urban as Bones, now that was eerie, you'd almost swear that WAS Deforest Kelly, I've never seen a homage so bloody perfect, I don't think, he even got the unique manner of speaking and cadence down to a flawless degree, he *worked* that one, I can only imagine the effort that took.
Kirk's character always a bit into himself, but he was also the most selfless captain ever to inhabit the Star Trek universe in times of serious dilemma(also proven in this film).
Urban as Bones....freaking awesome!
Simon Pegg as Scotty did a fantastic job. I hope in the sequel he will get more screen time.
Chekov, and Sulu were slightly less than average for me.
Pike was great.
Uhura and Spock...well I always new something was going on between the two. Just watch season one of the original series and see what I mean.
out of 10 I give the new Star Trek film a solid 8.

For comparison, Serenity is a 10, Voyage Home is a 9.

SorryIsAll, Chris, but Serenity IS NOT A TEN. No movie or 'verse in which Wash and Book die can ever get a ten in my book.
Just sayin', is all.

I love every minute of the movie. I love the music, the story, the actors, and the effects. This movie is epic on many different levels. It has a seriousness to it that we have not seen in decades with Trek. It has little political or cultural correctness in it, and that's very refreshing. When Sulu runs his blade thru the chest of the Romulan I said holy shit, now we're talkin'! Everyone's young, and everything is new. It's perfect to see them all grow a bit into their new careers.
For those trying to compare Chris Pine as Kirk to Bill Shatner's Kirk, one must remember that in Star Trek series, Kirk had already had many years of experience as Captain, and his confidence and swagger came after many, many successful missions. Pine's Kirk is just starting out, and I would have to rate his performance as a young Kirk as superb.
I give this movie the highest rating possible. It's the best & most fun sci fi movie I've seen since Serenity.

Finally saw it the other night.
I'm impressed. Bones was spot on. How an actor as young as Urban could be as curmudgeonly as Deforest Kelly is amazing.
The new Enterprise design is different but I do like it.
Overall, I'll give it a solid 8.5. Worth watching again... more than twice even.

Not in this one. It stay within scale for this film. The ship is twice as big as the original), in order to accommodate the larger scale sets within.
