In other news Obama stated that the other big kids wouldn't play fair.

All those with different views should be silenced.

Hello pot, this is the kettle.
Not that I approve of such tactics from anyone, but after enduring so much mudslinging, I can hardly blame the Democratic party for getting a little more confrontational.

I think that line should read

either you at least try to appear to tell both sides of the issues without editorializing anyone who disagrees with you as evil...

or you can spout your rubbish without the benefit of access to government press pools.

You have the right to an opinion

You have the right to run off at the mouth

The right to go to the press partys is not guaranteed

This is all part of how the game is played. It's called "access". Given that FauxNews is nothing but a mouthpiece for the GOP, and a place for them to editorialize and demonize everything Obama does, why would anyone from his administration even waste their time trying to talk to anyone at Faux? As Representative Alan Grayson said, if Obama were to end hunger in the world, the Republicans would blame him for overpopulation.

Somebody remind me - how many times did Dubya go on MSNBC? And where were your complaints then, when his administration made a conscious effort to deny access to what it considered "the lib'ral media"? (And no, I wasn't complaining about his lack of appearances on MSNBC; I was GRATEFUL that he wasn't going over there and giving out interviews. Every time that idiot speaks, his mangling of the English language has me wanting to jam knitting needles through my eardrums.)

This is just so much right-wing idiocy as usual. Bitch and insult, then complain that the other side isn't being nice. Anyone catch HW Bush's little snipe-fest last week, where he asked for restraint and an end to the namecalling, then proceeded to refer to "the cables" and in particular, Olbermann and Maddow, as "sick puppies"? Wow. Good thing he's not doing any namecalling, eh?

This is just a sad, pathetic, and blatently obvious attempt by Obama's goons to deflect the issues that they are losing popularity on. Fox News is lovin' it! Lovin' it all the way to the bank!

Speaking of gay rights, how much airtime did FauxNews devote to the big march weekend before last? About as many people turned out to support gay rights as turned out for the "9/12" protests, yet Faux didn't seem to even notice.

Fair & Balanced, indeed.

ETA: This was posted before Jongsie edited his post. He originally posted that this was an attempt by the Obama admin to sidestep issues like gay rights and Afghanistan.

I'd say it's a blatant and pathetic attempt by CONSERVATIVES to avoid real issues - things like health care reform, gay rights, the FACT that Obama has now kept us safer from terrorist attack for longer than Bush did (that landmark was reached on September 12, 2009, by the way), etc.

I am really so sick of people treating national politics like some gorram rugby match. Oooh, and Obama is down! Pathetic! Haha, Fox rules!

Pathetic? Really? Fox has been very successful at shaping the opinion of the conservative people in this country to the point that huge percentages of 'em believe utter b.s. like Obama's foreign birth, Obama's secret religion, Obama's communist conspiracy, Acorn's apocalyptic influence, death panels, concentration camps for the right, Obama's healthcare "final solution"--the list goes on and on and on and on!

Fox has been extremely successful peddling, promoting, nurturing this "sad, pathetic, blatantly obvious" propaganda for over a year now to the point where they've not only framed the debate, they've all but abolished it.

The White House is just showing the teansiest bit of back bone here (uh-oh, that angry black man again, hide the children!) and saying, "Hey, that ain't right," and the "conservatives" all get up their best high dudgeon and pontificate on the "harm" THIS does to free speech!

Fox News is Fox. I don't watch anything on Fox, except sports. They cancelled Firefly, Drive, and Sarah Connor, 3 shows I liked a lot. But they have had The Simpsons on for 20 years. 20 years??"!! I find it amazing that people still watch that.

It wouldn't have helped. If people want to be assholes, there's no stopping them.

Obama has been demonized from the start from the republicans(it's their job) but this is the first time I've ever heard of a president crying "foul" over it.

How is it "weak" to not engage or give free publicity and ratings to those who have no interest in actually conversing with you, but only want to attack, attack, attack?

And how is ignoring FauxNews, or pointing out that they're basically a broken-clock news organization (they may report actual NEWS maybe twice a day; all the rest is pure bullshit and editorializing), "showing that they are getting to him"?

By the way, would you say that Olbermann and Maddow are "getting to" Bush Sr?

So, by your own reckoning, it wouldn't help Obama at all to go on FauxNews. If they want to be assholes, they're going to be assholes.

Here's WH Communications Director Anita Dunn bragging about how she and Obama "CONTROLLED" the media. This explains much as to why they hate (or are afraid of) Fox. They cannot "control" Fox. Fox does what the networks & NY Times are supposed to do : question, challenge, investigate the Administration, not cheerlead the issues.

Truth is Chris, I really don't care either way. You know I'm an older guy. I have everything I ever wanted in this world; a great family, a good quality of life, good friends, and a career in its' waning days. I'm really not too caring about current policies of this or that, but I do find these media wars very interesting though. If Fox was as supposedly influential on the idiot masses, then how did Obama win the election? On the other hand if Fox is nothing but Right-wing propaganda, how come their ratings are going through the roof, just obliterating everyone else? How come Obama's numbers on just about everything are going south? I do believe there is an Obama backlash going on in the countyr. I think people are sick to death of his endless pontificating and lecturing to us. Seems absurd to me to blame all this on poor lonely Fox News; actually seems sad and pathetic as I said earlier.

Ok, going back to the Bill Clinton years. The Right was constantly attacking Clinton. Rush Limabaugh had his own show that was over the top with Clinton insults. Clinton never had issues. He simply went about his presidential duties.

Obama's too smart to get his hands dirty. Try Googling Anita Dunn, Emmanuel, and Axelrod. You might see what's going on. Fox has nothing to do with Obamas numbers tanking, that's just the American people slowly waking up to his ineffectiveness. Sorry.

"Your" intended as meaning the one you advocated and voted for. Like my ilk with Bush, only much, much quicker. Hey, all is going to be OK. Hillary Clinton will announce she's running against him in about 6 months. Repubs cannot hope to win it for at least another 7 years, so maybe Hillary's challenge will actually do something positive.

Is the video of Anita Dunn a lie? Did you even watch the damn thing? Was the midnight resignation of avowed marxist & 911 Truther WH czar Van Jones a lie too? Was the Acorn scandal a lie too? Is the latest Rassmussen Poll showing HC support at 42% a lie as well? Are Obama's plummeting poll numbers all a lie too? Chris had a good time here today. I'm glad I could indulge your fleeting interests for once in my life.

On another note........ The White House AND posters here accuse FOX News of being the arm or mouthpiece for the Republican Party. Balderdash!! The Republican Party is a CLUELESS, stagnant organization without one original thought in their head. Michael Steel, Chairman, is a huge disappoinment, and a blundering dunderhead to boot. TO THINK that THOSE pathetic worms could ever advise Fox News about anything is even more laughable than the WH attacking Fox in the first place. TOO bad the RNC doesn't listen and take directions FROM Fox. They might actually learn and know something, but then they'd have to take time away from their mistresses and other dastardly dealings.

Hello pot, this is the kettle.
Not that I approve of such tactics from anyone, but after enduring so much mudslinging, I can hardly blame the Democratic party for getting a little more confrontational.

There's been so much "pot calling kettle black" I just have to laugh when I hear it, it's so absurd.

This is what I heard one pundit say when asked why the White House was speaking up, had they just had enough or something? Yes, but more than that; "If you cannot reason, if you cannot make the argument because of some ulterior motive, if there's not rational thinking," you might as well speak the truth and call them out.

Not sure if it's a good thing to be engaging Fox Noise in any way, but it's refreshing for ME to hear someone in power speak up and tell it like it is. "It's not news, it's pushing a point of view" someone said, which has been so obvious for so long that it shouldn't need saying.

Faux News is TRULY the best name anyone could have given it--tho' Fox Noise is cute, calling it pseudo-news is right on. Had a bumpersticker during the Bush years: "If you're not outraged, you're watching Fox News". Says it all, for me.

Wow. Good thing he's not doing any namecalling, eh?
made me smile, too...how pathetic! Not to mention that, leftie that she may be, I've never found Maddow to be anything but civil and to have a great knack at "following the money". 'Course, to Daddy GW, I suppose that IS being a "sick puppy"!

Cavalier, I agree wholeheartedly. To dismiss Faux Noise is to ignore that what they do, they do VERY well...unfortunately!

Funny, I didn't see this as Obama "crying foul", "blaming" or as an indication that Fox is "getting to him", nor as it being that he hates or is afraid of them...I saw it as calling a spade a spade, purely and simply, and nothing more. Nice someone with a voice finally DID...end of story. Of course it's NOT end of story, Fox Noise won't let it be, but it was satisfying for me.

And a big part of the Obama administration saying it may be simply to call them out on what is blatantly obvious to anyone on the outside. Believe it or not, there are still people (some of them posting in this very thread) who actually BELIEVE that FauxNews is an objective news source. That's the sad thing, really.

Yes, I watch MSNBC. And I think I've said it more often and more loudly than anyone else around here: MSNBC *IS* a very liberal network. So much so that you can actually pick out WHICH liberals the various people on the network support. Maddow likes Obama, but she liked Hillary too. Chris Matthews just LOVES Hillary, no matter how many tingles up his leg Obama might give him. Olbermann, who got his start in political commentary during the Clinton impeachment proceedings, LOVES Obama and barely tolerates Hillary. Perhaps he saw more of the behind-the-scenes story when he was covering Monicagate than the others did; I don't know.

Thing is, they're liberal, and they don't pull any punches in saying so. And then you have FauxNews, whose people have suddenly decided to declare themselves as "independents" in the last nine months or so, and who actually expect people to believe they never really wanted McCain and Palin to win, because they weren't "real" conservatives.

Someone claimed that half the FauxNews viewers are independents or Democrats. I'd laugh, but that's probably true. After all, if it were only Republicans watching, then Fox would have fewer viewers than their business network does (is it still on the air? Last time I checked, Davey and Goliath reruns were pulling better numbers than FauxBidness). Latest poll results show that fewer than 20% of Americans identify themselves as Republicans today. That's the lowest numbers in a generation. Of course, the vast majority of those so-called "independents" are the people who up to a year ago were proud Bush-league Republicans. As Frem has pointed out (hilariously, I thought), you could goddam near HEAR them outside late at night, busily scratching those "W" stickers off their car windows, and drooping their heads and hoping nobody would remember.

The only thing that makes them "independent" in any way, shape or form is that four years ago they were screaming "Support the President! He's YOUR President too!" - and now they're living in mortal dread of those words coming back to bite them in the ass, so they declare their "independence" from supporting their President, their troops, their country, or their flag. You know, any of those things that not supporting in full throat and loud voice a mere couple of years ago, they would have deemed un-American.

Independent, my ass. You can't be independent if you're still being force-fed your opinions and talking points by FauxNews.

Well, yeah - it's "liberal" by American standards.

It's funny, because all the righties keep going on about how "right-wing conservatives" are winning positions in European governments, but they'd be shocked if they ever actually met any of those Euro "right-wingers" - they're further left than even the lefty-looney fringe here at home! Good one, Mike. Sigh...I spent a couple of hours put together references and facts on all three, then lost the whole damned post (teach me to do stuff in Word..... There was a lot more info in the original, but here’s as much as I’m willing to re-find.

ACORN: The recent ACORN scandal was about two conservative activists who dressed up as prostitute and pimp and went to ACORN offices with a hidden video camera to get dirt. Couple of offices shut the door on them, couple called authorities, one very stupid woman “played back” at them, pretending to be a prostitute and giving “advice”. She’s since been fired, as she should have been, as it was a really stupid thing to do and gave ammunition to the conservatives with which to attack them.

Health Care reform: Rasmussen poll is real; but it depends on what poll you read and when it was taken and by whom. RABC/Washington Post:“Americans divide about evenly on the reform plan; but 57 percent support one of the plan's most contentious elements, a government-sponsored insurance option, and that soars to 76 percent if it's limited to those who can't get affordable private insurance”( http://abcnews.go.com/PollingUnit/Politics/obama-health-care-abc-news-
washington-post-poll/story?id=8863442
); Gallup: “51% of Americans favor or lean toward favoring a bill, while 41% oppose it or lean toward opposition” ( http://www.gallup.com/poll/123470/Opposition-Healthcare-Legislation-Dr
ops-Modestly.aspx_
; Associated Press: “The public is split 40-40 on supporting or opposing the health care legislation”( http://cbs2.com/national/health.care.reform.2.1232611.html)

Obama’s Numbers: Again, depends on what poll and when. Broken down by date, pollster and approve/disapprove:

Rasmussen:
10/18-20 – 47/53
10/15-17 – 49/50
10/12-14 – 48/51

Gallup:
10/18-20 – 50/42
10/15-17 – 53/41
10/3-5 – 51/49

CNN:
10/16-18 – 55/43

ABC/Post:
10/15-18 – 57/40

Fox:
10/13-14 – 49/45

http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/jobapproval-obama.php

Those are the most recent ones. In the first two cases, he went up, then down in a couple of DAYS. Do you really want to hang your hat on “plummet”?

By the way, Cheney's big speech, in which he chastised Obama's administration for doing what Bush agreed to do in Iraq, and said Obama was "dithering" in Afghanistan despite Bush's actual REFUSAL to send more troops in when he was asked for them by General McKiernan...

Yeah, FOX was the ONLY "news" outlet that was given an advance copy of that speech. In other words, the Bush Crew STILL shuns everybody BUT Fox.

Oh, and that guy that Bush called a "major-league asshole" who worked at the NY Times? Yeah, Bush refused to give any interviews to the Times for the entirety of his two terms. So they absolutely, definitely, unequivocally shunned the New York Times, the "paper of record".

And in a fluff piece on Fox, former White House spokesmodel Dana Perino came right out and admitted that they refused to deal with MSNBC for the last few years of the Bush administration.

So tell me - WHAT was your problem with Obama shunning Fox?

Yeah, Mike, I caught that one...Fox and their ilk are screaming bloody murder about Obama have a meal with some MSNBC folk; from the way they whine and holler, you'd think it'd been a treasonous act.

Now, during Dumbya's time, liberal media were anathema at the White House--despite requests, they were excluded on a regular basis. Obama met with conservative media BEFORE he met with liberal media when he took office, and has met with both ever since.

Soooo...as usual: Bush did it, it's cool; Obama does it, OMIGAWD THE COUNTRY'S GOING TO COLLAPSE!!! Ya gotta giggle.

Nothing new here, move on...

I don't think they're "shunning" Fox Noise, rather they're being clear, that they're happy to deal with real news media, but will deal with Fox Noise like the propaganda-pushing political hacks they ARE. Seems fair to me. They didn't say there was anything WRONG with Fixed News being "fixed", only that they can't purport to be NEWS by doing so, instead they will be recognized as right-wing "commentators". What's wrong with that?

Also, it should be noted that one of the people Fox touts as one of its "real" - ahem - "journalists" (as opposed to commentators or "entertainers" as they refer to Beck and O'Really) is now appearing at the Americans For Prosperity events - not as a reporter, mind you, but as a paid spokesman and headliner.

Yup. PAYING people at "legitimate" news outlets to write stories favorable to the administration, paying for "news stories" that were nothing more than paid infomercials shilling their latest line of crap, relying on "planted" reporters in the White House press pool, like Jeff Gannon of "Talon News Service".

So, "Hero", Oppyh, and others - What's worse, shunning a "news" organization that's nothing more than a broadcast editorial page masquerading as front-page news, or embracing that same "news" source WHILE PAYING THEM AND FEEDING THEM THE STORIES YOU WANT THEM TO RUN?

Maybe Fox should be required to run a disclaimer before every one of its "newscasts":

Quote:

The following is a paid political advertisement, paid for by the Republican National Committee, which is solely responsible for its content. The views and opinions expressed herein are solely the views of the Party, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the meatpuppet reading them off the teleprompter. Not only did she do it, and get caught at it, but SHE GOT PROMOTED FOR IT!

So what is it they're complaining about?

Oh, and about that media "bias".

Here's how the "librul" media will report an error in reporting:

"It has come to our attention that certain statements in our earlier coverage of this story cannot be verified [list of statements follows]. For that reason, we cannot include those statements as part of the story. We retract those statements and apologize for the error."

And here's the FauxNews/Rush Limbaugh method:

"Now we haven't been able to confirm the validity of these statements, but we know they FEEL true. And we note for the record that Obama HAS NOT denied raping and killing a 10-year-old boy in 1992, so that MUST be true as well."
