Vladislav Tkachiev was so intoxicated that he could barely sit in his chair and soon fell asleep after only 11 moves.

Ha!
Should give shotglass chess a try then.
Me and Nguyen* (sp?) use to play that, basically standard chess, 30 second move timer, shotglass of cheap whiskey on the side.
Take a piece, slam the shot - after about 3-4 games, it gets kind of interesting.
I can NOT spell or pronounce the guys name, so I just call him Charlie, which to this day annoys him a bit cause he's not vietnamese and thinks it's in reference to victor-charlie, when in fact it's a joke on just how easy I can yank his chain (Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football).

Try pronouncing it "Nwynn". He's not Vietnamese? Is he Cambodian?
And yeah, I can see where "Charlie" might be a little off-putting for him, on either score. :)

This person appears to have a problem. He is lucky the chess community is going to allow him to continue the tournament. How long would any of us last if we showed up drunk for work. I would like to hear his explanation for showing up intoxicated.
