Season 7 question

I'm currently working on planning a game in the Buffy RPG system (good game by the way, I highly recommend it) and I was trying to remember something.

I believe there was a special knife needed to open the hellmouth, they had to draw blood with this specific knife for the seal to open. Am I correct in that recollection, and does anyone remember the name of that knife?

I don't remember any special knife being needed. I thought it was just blood that was needed.

Wasn't the knife a mis-direction? I thought it was the blood too... Another excuse to go and re-watch season 7

As I recall, there was a knife. I do believe it was a special knife. But, as stated above, the knife was used to get blood which was an important part too. I would imagine wikipedia may hold the answer. Or you could read the descriptions of the eps to figure out which episode to watch to get that name.

I don't think the knife was as important as the blood. Remember the demon chick who was going to use Xander to open it? She didn't have any special knife that I recall.

The knife was important in that it bore an inscription: "The blood which I spill, I consecrate to the oldest evil". Whether the knife is necessary, or simply preferred by the first, is never clear, whereas blood is.

I don't recall a name being mentioned, however the inscription was in Tawarick, so maybe you can work with that.

Ok, so generally I think people agree that the knife like (or is likely) important and so is the blood. Beyond that, are we really going to get into a argument about which is more important? Why can't they just both be important and leave it at that. Especially, since, as stated above, the exact role and importance of the knife is not exactly clear. It just seems to be important.

That comment wasn't really directed at you. But, I saw the potential for an "out geeking the other guy/gal" contest. So, I was trying to head that off at the pass. No point in arguing something that isn't clear (as you stated above).
