The cars mentioned in that article bring to mind my '91 CRX, which is still my daily driver. It's almost 20 years old now, and it's never been wrecked. 175,000 miles, no accidents. It doesn't have anti-lock brakes, automatic seatbelts, airbags, traction control, stability control, rollover avoidance, or any other fancy safety equipment. It's got 2.5mph bumpers, two seatbelts, one steering wheel, four cylinders, 105 horsepower, 2100 pounds of weight, and three pedals. Combined with an ability to pay attention, they're everything you need to stay out of trouble.

My number one secret to accident avoidance? PAY ATTENTION! I don't talk on the phone when I'm driving. I don't fiddle with the radio, eat food, cut my hair, or shave while I'm driving, either. I *DRIVE*. It's the most dangerous thing most people will ever do, and they treat it like they're watching a game show.

The funny thing is, I speed, and I still don't crash. Speed doesn't kill; not paying attention does.

I says it who hates to, cause i used to drive at very very high speeds: Best solution is a speed limit. Reason? You may be able to hold the road at 120, but random events occur that put a fuel tanker in your lane, and that's not a crash you're going to survive.

Here are some others:

1. Trucks should have their own highways. I'm willing to give them the interstate, but from there, they must unload to smaller vehicles.

3. Simple barriers to prevent anyone from drifting into the oncoming lane.

9. Public transportation

14. new DWI laws that say you will now be banned from driving. If caught driving, you go to jail.

21. kid vehicles and kid roads, where small electric cars go 20 mi/hr, sufficient to get you too and from teen parties so you don't learn to drive while on your way to a friends to get high with some hot girl, and not find out on the way home that you have just killed her by running into a dairy truck. (this just happened to some kids here.)

As for the $4k car, nice move. The "regulations" that make cars cost more in the US contain one specific regulation that you can't undercut. There's a dealer cartel which sets prices, and was able to block the mercedes c class in the 80s from being introduced at 8k, so the same car was introduced at 20k, no change, just 12k in "regulations."
