Jayne ... opportunistic, uncomplicated and plain-spoken. Sees a way through/forward and gives it a try. If it doesn't work out, find something else to try. Jayne is always looking out for himself - he realizes that no one else will. He recognizes an opportunity when presented with one.

Zoe. I try to be very loyal and honorable and I see these traits in Zoe and admire them.
Plus my father was very military and I think I have a bit of that, despite never having served.

Wash, on my better days. But mainly Mal, because I've come so close to losing faith in all things. I can, at times, see life as merely getting the next job done to see the coin. I would die for my beliefs, if I had any beyond getting through the next emotional rough patch.
I guess that's why I goof around so much, I feel adrift in a sea of uncertainty in my 'Verse.
If I only had a tall ship, and a star to steer her by... or just a Firefly...

I have to say that if Jayne an Kaylee got together and got down, I'd be the frightening result of their illicit relations....

Mal. I've never seen another character in anything whom I identify with more.
I'm 41, my "glory days" are over. I lost faith in everyone and everything long ago. Any plans I had ended with my marriage a little over a year ago, now I'm just kinda floating around out here, and I just want to keep flyin..... and nothin' ever "goes smooth".

Mal (even though I'm female) mostly, but River too...that's why those two are my favorite Firefly characters.
I see myself as being like Mal because I lost faith (er, well, hope and optimism are probably a better descriptor of what I lost, because I hold faith in the supernatural in contempt), I question everything, "me and mine" is my first priority, I don't trust the government, and I've had a somewhat colorful job history (even though I never did anything illegal). Oh, and I can't stand formal social occasions.
But also, since there is such a "definite oddness" to me (when I was younger, I was flamboyantly weird). Also, when I decide to learn something I tend to do it fast and get into deep details and come off like a genius, I'm like River!

just to clarify.... i have lost faith in the entire entertainment industry. I have no hope that there will be another television program to equal Firefly - and the constant regurgitating of the same stale movie based on cartoons is incredulous. If not for well written novels and the inter-webs I would have nothing for stimulating entertainment .... sigh, why did i buy that huge flat screen tv...?? (to watch blade runner over and over??)
