Even the Police Chief admits it's Orwellian. Good gravy, people, since when has being "Orwellian" been considered a good thing?

Here is an entire town given over to informing on each other for the sake of security. And when this mindset is entrenched within the population, I have doubts that the average citizen will be any better than government agencies in terms of bullying tactics and such.
