For those who want Letterman's head, there is the FCC. Protest, put in a complaint, write your Congressman.
But don't you think that if anyone can get the FCC to slap a fine, or worse, on the late night host it would be Palin. You know, she nearly got to run this country from her porch in Alaska.
Oh yeah, wait a minute, she's not a Washington insider. So she wouldn't be able to get anything done in Washington.
Still though, with her connections (she was able to get a new wardrobe for her campaign, oh wait, that was McCain's campaign) she could get some republicans on her side. I mean after all she nearly got to run this country. BTW the republicans who championed her back when are awfully silent. Where are they? Where's the indignation? Did Rush make a comment? How about McCain? Anyone? Anyone?
I would think that a gun-toting, moose-hunting, bikini-wearing, tough-talking, backwoods-hunting momma beloved by millions could get her supporters to march on CBS and demand Letterman's head. Where's the love?

Your silly example aside, the rule is for unintentional deaths resulting from intentional felonies. Rob a bank and the teller dies of a heart attack...murder. Shoot at a cop but hit the mother of three you didn't know was in the line of fire...murder. Rob a bank and the guard shoots your partner...murder (an ironic murder, but still murder).
Jaywalk while resting a mugging...not murder (but still jaywalking).
