What comic/game/book do you think should be made into a movie?

(In best Mal voice)With all this hubbub 'bout Batman Begins, I thought it mightn't be a bad idea to see what other Browncoats would like made into a movie, an' why.
(Normally) I nominate the Spectre- a really dark DC Comics character (think Batman, w/o the reluctance to kill). Created back in the 40's by the writer who created Superman, the Spectre is the most powerful superhero in the DC 'verse.
You see, this cop is gunned down by some crooks. As he's on his way to Heaven, he's given the choice of returning to Earth. He takes it, and becomes the Spectre.
Over the years, he gets darker and darker, at one point sentencing a whole country to destruction due to their rampant genocidal tendencies.
It later turns out he's the Wrath of God in mortal form. (This is all from the comics, honest.)
So amigos- what's your ideas?

I've just rewatched a bunch of Ang Lee movies and loved them (even The Hulk, I don't know why folk hated that movie so, Nick Nolte deserved an oscar for that one). Ang Lee is such a virtuoso, working in many genres, but always making an important statement. So I'm kinda obsessed with the idea of him making a movie of Reading Lolita in Tehran. It would be like five Ang Lee movies in one. Scenes from Lolita beside scenes from The Great Gatsby beside Daisy Miller beside Pride and Prejudice all wrapped in an amazing memoir of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Now that would be a movie!

I hear they're making a movie out of His Dark Materials so yay! I'll be seeing that opening night!

Choke and Lullaby by Chuck Palawniuk would be great and disturbing as hell to see on the big screen.

I would love to see an actual Final Fantasy movie. I want chocobos and moogles and summoning spells that take five minutes to perform, gorram it! Not some silly sci-fi Ben Afleck cartoon!

Comics: Midnight Nation by JMS is a leading contender (so is Rising Stars, but I think it's a bit harder to translate into a movie, and it's not even finished yet). Out of ongoing series, well, they're already doing mighty fine with X-Men and Spider-Man, so I'm pretty happy.

Books: I kinda wish Ender's Game would finally get made. And of course, the books from which I took my name, but I don't think they'd ever really work. I've been waiting for a good movie adaption to Neverwhere too (I've seen the miniseries, but I'd like to see it as a movie).
Really, there are so many contendors here, I could be here all day listing them.

Games: I'm not much of a video gamer, and I kinda get an instinctive fear whenever there's a video game made into a movie, because the track record has not been good. Now, there are some damn fine looking video games that I've heard of or seen on TV, so maybe that's changing, but I just have so much bad memories of things like Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat, and Super Mario Bros. (Though for non-video games, I wouldn't be opposed to the notion of a Delta Green movie)

Hmmmm...I'd like to see the manga "Eden," by Hiroki Endo turned into a film. Very complex, very interesting. Ah, and "Bremen," by Umezawa Haruto, because it's THE PUNKROCKINGEST SERIES ON EARTH.

As far as games go, I think "Shenmue," while being incredibly difficult to do well, would make a fine film. It would just be almost impossible for it to get the respect it deserves in America.

Books...I want to see "Cats Cradle," done as a film. Also, a book that none of you ever heard of, entitled "Snail".

I don't read many American comics, but "The Walking Dead," could make the first zombie film to really rival "Dawn of the Dead," in terms of message and overall quality.

The comic Sam and Max would make a good movie, they're detectives from the Spawn universe who got their own comic spinoff. Very gritty crime drama. Would probably be better as a TV series, on HBO, preferably.

Game to movie... hm, I always felt that a good game works because they are very interactive, something you lose in a movie... but if I had to pick one, I would go with a Space Quest game, probably 3. Would have to be a British production, and John Cleese needs to be in it somewhere. Or, preferably, get Monty Python together to do it!

As for a book... so few books survive the transition to film... but I think that someone should give the Wheel of Time series a try... It'd be a daunting task to try and condense it down, but I think that it would be doable. The problem would be that you would need like 10+ sequels to get the whole story (at one movie per book) that it won't ever happen.

I'll have to check out this Spectre comic, sounds interesting. Also, on the Batman note, why aren't they doing any of the Frank Miller Batman stuff!? The Dark Knight books are the best Batman out there.

Not a big gamer but I definitely feel that they usually don't have enough story to fill a feature length film. So no Games.

Books are easy. I would want a good version of a "Wrinkle in Time" done instead of that over produced piece of crap that Disney put on TV the other night.

And anything by Chuck Pallaniuk. "Choke" and "Invisible Monsters" would be the best one's though. The good news there is that everything Chuck has written is already in some form of production. Yippee!

I'd also like to see someone do a good version of "A Brave New Word" and "1984"

Of course I can't wait for the 4th Harry Potter movie.

Oh, oh, Filmgoddess, that is a very understandable and common misconception! Not all video games are driving and shoot'em up exercises in brutality. Forgive me if this is old news to you, but there's a whole genre of game mainly coming out of Japan called RPG's which encompass anywhere from 20 to 100 hours of storyline and cinematic set pieces (two or three seasons worth of the most beautiful tv shows you can imagine). Some of it is not only breathtakingly beautiful but also very heart-felt and satisfying from a literary standpoint (I've often thought of starting up a movie review style web site that focuses exclusively on the cinematic/novelistic aspects of video games).

I would never have discovered these RPG's unless I had inherited a Playstation from a friend of mine, never would have known they existed. I don't understand why game companies don't start marketing these games like movies or novels. Some of these games have beautiful trailers (which you will only find on video game web sites of course), but they never emphasize character or plot enough to make you want to find out what happens. The only way anyone seems to find out about these games is if they stumble upon them by accident--or I tell'em about it (hey, kinda like Firefly in that regard

).
