The official word from Square is that it's a DVD movie release set two years after the end of the game. The only confirmed returning characters at this point are Cloud, Barret, Marlene, Tifa, Vincent, and Reno and Rude.

About halfway down the page, it mentions that David Hayter (the voice of Solid Snake, and script writer for the X-Men films) is approaching Universal about making a MGS movie.

I'm not into either games or comics. Got nothing against them, just never caught the spark from them. I read a lot, mostly SF and a bit of fantasy, so here's what I would like to see adapted.

Books are easy. I would want a good version of a "Wrinkle in Time" done instead of that over produced piece of crap that Disney put on TV the other night.

ps: the disny version of that movie is actually 2 hours shorter then the REAL one, which was only shown in europe, yet in theateres (a year or two ago) I hope the REAL movie comes to DVD here soon, I hope its better!

Also, a close bet to 1984 is "Equilibrium"(as said by like 84 of my freinds...) I havent actually seen it I admit, but simplyform what Ive heard its like 1984 and farenheit 451 put in a blender, as soon as I get a job I'm getting it from Amazon.com...

If people only beleive wahts in a movie, their damn well sure beleiving Serenity.

i would have to vote for the final fantasy games (if they are done better than the last movie) but with the colossal box office failure of spirits within, i think that idea will never happen (how in the world can you spend $130 million and only make $30 million?! )

another game i would love to see as a movie would be the curse monkey island from lucas arts. perhaps with the success of the pirates of the carribean movie, movie people might consider it.

my choice, though i may get ridiculed, is the star of the guardians trilogy by margaret weis. i have no idea who would play the parts and i have no idea if it would work as a movie. if i were a billionaire (and i might be someday), i would have the movies made just for myself!

A new idea from me- Y: The Last Man, a graphic novel/ comic series published by Vertigo. Here's a quote from the GN:
"A plague struck without warning and without mercy, all across the globe. Every mammal on Earth that bore a Y chromosone died in a matter of seconds. Out of billions of animals, only two were spared- a human named Yorick Brown, and his pet monkey, Ampersand. Why they survivied is a mystery."
Sounds like a helluva plot for a movie, doesn't it?

I'd like to see American Gods turned into a movie, but they'd probably f--- it up. All those details included in the text were an important part of what made the book good. I'm not sure if they'd be able to translate it into a movie. The Neil Gaiman written item that I'd like to see as a movie: something set in the Sandman series. They would run the risk of being too faithful to the graphic novels creating a "been there, done that" feeling.

When I read an exceptionally good book, I tend to think, "They shouldn't make this into a movie because they'd ruin it." So, I'm probably not the best person to ask. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way....

I'd like to see a Pern novel on the big screen. I'd probably go with Dragonflight or part of the Harper Hall trilogy. In case anyone is lost, look up Anne McCaffrey.

Not to forget Constantine, a Hellblazer movie... But I'm a bit pessimistic about this one. Keanu Reeves as John Constantine? (Hmm, black haired American guy to play blonde Cockney bloke...)

I checked out the site you mentioned, but since the tidbit was out of date as well as sketchy I had to seek confirmation (which I got on Neil Gaiman's website in the FAQs). Meanwhile, I looked at IMDb to see what they had to say about Neil. They report that the following titles are in various stages of production: Coraline, Good Omens, Books of Magic, and MirrorMask. They aren't the ones I would have chosen, but I'll see them if they get made.

I have to agree with Planescape, though hopefully they would do it more intelligently than the so-called Dungeons & Dragons movie.

I would also like to see a faithful adaptation of Lucifer's Hammer by Niven and Pournelle.

I also cannot fathom why no movie has been made of the Barsoom novels by Edgar Rice Boroughs. They should also remake Land that Time Forgot.
