Who do you identify with (and why)?

I most identify with Wash, because that is what all the "Which Firefly Character Are You?" thingys tell me who I am.

I would have to say River. I'm not as gifted nor as insane, but I have my measure of gifted and an outlook that is usually viewed as.. odd. Emotions cut deep. Little things can set me off, and little things can make me happy. I have some regular sensations of moving around in a bubble: wanting to touch something but not being able to, trying to communicate while my words just wash over gray forms without touching them. Those who love me sometimes seemed burdened by me, or wary of me. At least River knows better than I do why that is. I'm easiest to ignore until I stop being quiet, and then I'm easiest to fear. No one seems sure if I'm fragile or strong, if I need help or should be given a wide berth, even if I tell them.
I related to River almost immediately. She's an outrageously overblown version, but she's me. Joss is very good at taking things real people experience every day and inflating them for a story that seems far too fantastic to be hitting nerves like that, it's his genius.

I started a thread like this a while ago to say that, in an odd way, I really related to Tracey. A simple guy trying to get along in a 'Verse where he just can't seem to find his place. I've found myself in that situation more than once. People around me getting better jobs, doing well for themselves and there I am, feeling like I'm struggling or not being able to get my life together.

In a "feel good" way, I relate to Wash because of his sense of humor. He's the kind of guy I'd want as a close friend. Very easy going but at the same time, the best at what he does.

Mal: You think she'll hold together?
Zoë: She's torn up plenty, but she'll fly true.

Wow, Dancer, some of that... quite a bit of that... is a fair description of why I relate to River, as well. Maybe you have some of her reading abilities, too.
I always test as Zoe. I think I aspire more than really relating. Her loyalty and devotion are probably what we have most in common. I've related to both of them, since I discovered the series.

A few years ago I would have said I'm like Mal, bold and adventurous. But now the answer has to be Book. Maybe it comes with getting older, or maybe it comes from just not wanting to get in trouble any more, either in my personal life or at work. I like helping folks and I like the simple quiet life now. My days of taking everything so seriously have certainly come to a middle.

I'd say Wash and Simon.

I'm a smart aleck. Not gonna lie. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you that I crack jokes, even (or maybe especially) when it's not necessarily appropriate.

Simon, though, I relate to in terms of his dedication to family over all else. There's pretty much nothing I wouldn't sacrifice to keep my family, ESPECIALLY my brother, out of harm's way.

Mal. Not because he's all heroic and brave or anythng, but mostly because I would do anything to look after my dear old crew. Same in life. My friends who I've known all these years mean the world to me and I'd do just about anything to keep us all together.

I also have trouble accepting the accepted and can be very questioning of what is perceived as 'proper' or the thing to do. I wouldn't necessarily fight it head on, but I may just take myself to some far off place and live my own way.

For me, it would have to be Simon. I consider myself a very protective older brother and would do anything for my sister. Also, I'm a bit of Wash - kooky and loveable.
