"The community rallied around the situation with probably 100 volunteers," Dufresne said. "Over every horse were three to five people triaging."

I wish I could tell you how MANY people I came across who died alone, with indifferent - or no - medical care.

Maybe being poor is the reason why most people die without notice, because "Each horse is worth more than $100,000."

Hey - maybe the key to being to being an honorary human - more worthwile than most humans in fact - is money. It certainly got THESE people confused over horses v humans:

"This was a tragic issue on the magnitude of losing a basketball team in an airplane crash."

If I was alone in this world, I would fully expect to go that way.

Appropriate.

Just wish getting to that point wasn't so harsh for some is all.

Some, who might otherwise have lived, die struggling for help when there is none. Many die with less concern given to them than to these horses.

That's the problem. The priorities.

Money engenders concern. Lack-O-money bleeds concern away.

Chris, Rue: Sorry, for some reason the text part of Rue's post never showed up when I wrote that... >_>

Yeah, I think we shouldn't consider price tags when deciding who (or what) to give medical treatment.

"Heaven and Earth are not humane."
That's what people are for.

Absolutely. It's hard enough to make it into the world of the living w/ out being sucked out of existence before even having a chance to live.
