Hell while we're on this topic, Starship Troopers got a #3 and it was WAYYYY worse and the last two made wayyy less money than either Riddick in his multiple incarnations, or Serenity.

chris: yeah wasnt a huge fan of the way the animation looked in the weird little sneak peeks they had on the riddick dvd (least i think thats where i saw it, might've been the pitch black dvd) so i just skipped it. ><;;

Those last two also cost FAAAAR less to make than CoR or Serenity.

True, but who knows to what degree the marketing and distribution would save them. Back when Serenity came out, the average marketing and distribution cost was around $40 mil for a Hollywood movie (oddly, folks around here were after my head for pointing this out at the time). Neither were factored into the $30 million budget for Serenity, so you're still looking at a sizeable upfront cost.
And SyFy is more than likely putting their BSG money into the spin-off, so it's claimed.

It's been my experience that the whole marketing/distribution costs thing really don't enter into the discussion until a production has been established. You don't really know what you have until you see a few dailies of an actual film being shot. If the suits like what they see, then marketing dollars and distribution contracts aren't too big of an issue. If they don't like where the production is headed... well, look out.

After reading all this, and understanding that polls are subject to the whims of voters; I have to say this.
In terms of vote popularity, numbers speak for themselves.
Now it's up to us as to who wants to see more of this. Everyone, convert one person. Have that one person convert another, and so on. Build up the numbers, have them vote again.
See if that doesn't perk them up a bit. Who knows?..it just might.

Pitch Black was Shakespeare compared to CoR. David Twohy did a much better job of keeping Vin under control in PB than in CoR. What Vin tends to forget is that less is more.
Radha Mitchell, for me, made PB very enjoyable because she flat out kicked ass in that movie. I imagine that CoR was more the brainchild of some studio suit who thought that 'blowing things up real good' will put butts in the seats at the theatres. As they tend to forget, that doesn't always work.
