I guess my main question is if this is an actual question Universial is pondering? Is this something the folks at Ropesofsilcone.com got wind of from someone of merit at the studio? If so, let the letter writting campaign begin!

Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

While the director of CoR had big plans for an epic third part to the "legend" of Riddick, I don't know that it'd be very interesting.

I agree TOTALLY!! They were two totally different movies. In CoR they kinda got away from what I found insteresting in PB.

I'd say Serenity 2 hands down. It would be a harder choice if they were making another CoR more in the spirit of PB. But still, Serenity 2.

Don't rightly know if that's the case, but dropping a "More Serenity Please" note or e-mail with Uni is never a bad idea.

there was always supposed to be a Riddick 3, because dave twohy set out to make a trilogy before pitch black was even made, and after the cliffhanger in riddick 2, i'd really like to see how that chronicle is resolved.

as for a second serenity, i was happy with the way the first one turned out, and i honestly think a second one would ruin that. it was one of those films where you watch it and you're like, 'wow, that was awesome. just as is.' and if they make another i really feel it would detract from that.

Serenity 2 obviously. Besides, the DVD sales for Serenity must have been pretty good, they released the CE right? Maybe I'm talking gibberish :)

Speaking of polls, GO VOTE HERE! http://www.tvtally.com/shows/overalltop.php?top=25 We're gaining on Jericho!

From observing many discussions here and at Whedonesque- I gather that expecting big money from the box office take IS the preferred way of making money. No big box office take...not much chance of a sequel. Plain and simple.

DVD sales are good and Serenity and Firefly have made a passel of money for Uni and Fox. But...they want box office- big box office...it's what they strive for always. Vin Diesel is a very bankable star right now...they're already planning a CoR followup.
I'd guess that 5 years hence, Serenity isn't even on the list.

They released the CE to make money off a reliable fandom. Smart move. Didn't gain us a sequel.

Tuff choice, but "Serenity 2" please.

I love Riddick, I have the DVD's,...IMHO 'Chronicles'was weak, and I thought the story was done with that one. I don't know the Riddick world but I think "Serenity" has many more stories than Riddick.

I think Serenity has many more stories in it. Even with characters besides the core crew we love so much. Fanfic abounds with continued stories. Look at www.stillflying.net. More of the good stuff there.

Also there is the fandom film being made. They've begun shooting on it. Very shiny indeed!

Agreed. A kind polite note from a fan saying I liked this, please make more is never a bad thing, it's a good thing.

But - I'd bet this is not an actual thing Uni is pondering. The ropesofsilicon folks are savvy enough to run a poll that will get FF/S/Whedon fans to vote and hit their site and also to get Riddick film fans to hit the site and vote. Vin Diesel fans are hyper aware I'd bet right now and the online response of Browncoats is legendary.
Fun poll, lots of attention...win/win.

Yeah...I'd like to see what happens next too. Riddick is a compelling character. I hope they make it gritty and more in the now as Pitch Black was. I'd like that better.

I can always see more Serenity. LOL
Even though I was satisfied with the first one.

I'd like to see it be a caper movie though. Something with action, trademark Whedon/Fillion funny and less danger to the crew. I wish the first one had been a caper movie. I think it would have done better. But it's Joss' story and I'm just glad I got to enjoy it.

While it's true he had planned a third Riddick film that would have picked up from CoR, that's not the movie they're making now. That one would have been another massive budget affair, like CoR, but since it kinda tanked, the new Riddick movie is a much smaller scale thing, and reportedly involves Riddick alone, fighting monsters again.

As much as I enjoy Riddick, naturally I would prefer to have Serenity 2, hands down.

As far as the question of Universal not wanting to pony up for another theatrical release, I don't see why they don't try a Serenity mini-series on Sci-Fi with an immediate follow up on DVD, like BSG: Razor. It would keep the costs down and generate income in Serenity's strongest area

The problem with all the talk of a cheaper DTV movie or mini-series is - the upfront costs are essentially the same. Sets would still need to be built, actors have to be paid, ect. Unless we want a Serenity built from cardboard, those are going to be hurdles either way.

They'd save money in marketing, and probably no-name supporting characters, but otherwise, the costs would be simmilar.

Okay, did I miss a movie? Because I don't ever recall there being a second CoR movie. As for more, I'd definitely welcome it, as I like the Riddick character.

As for which whould I prefer, Serenity 2, no doubt. I didn't even have to think about that.

O.o
So, you're saying you don't want more? Wow...

Pitch Black was the first Riddick movie, Chronicles of Riddick was the second ;)

i never said i didn't want more, i just don't think a second film would be a good idea. Miniseries, absolutely, resurrection of the original series, fuck yes, but i'm just not sure about the film venue.
That, and Riddick needs to be concluded. it's way too fuckin long overdue. At least with Serenity we had some closure lol.
