When I voted in this poll, I immediately voted for Serenity like most of us ( Browncoats ) did.
I also like the Riddick character ( mostly from the first movie ) very much.
I'd be pleased with both of them to tell you the truth.
But with the box office success of Fast and Furious and the announcement that another one has already been greenlit ( yes, they're doing another one! ) I'd say anything with Vin Diesel is going to be looked at more enthusiastically.
As a genre fan, I'm going to be happy we're getting genre stuff.
ETA: I have read too that Vin Diesel has said that production on another Riddick movie is in the works. Script written, etc...it'll be coming.

A couple weeks. Whedonesque posted it, and most of those Serenity votes came when that happened. The more folks become aware of it, the more votes there will be, I suppose.
Personally, my opinion of Universal is that they blame the Fans for Serenity's poor box office, and they feel "Burned". They are afraid to make a S2 because the Sereniverse makes money SLOWLY, and mainly through DVD sales. Most Studios are about the quick profit. You would think that, in hard economic times, they would look for reliable income, steady income. Such, evidently, is not the case.
If I live to be a hundred, I will never understand the Corporate Mind.
Oh, TD...with respect, I'm going to have to gently disagree with you.

I think that Uni may have "counted" on the fans of Joss a bit much to fill seats when Serenity opened and that they were disappointed. Who wouldn't be with the box office that Serenity pulled in? But I don't think they think about "burned" nor blame. I just think they count pennies and there weren't enough and they quit putting good money after bad.
I'm sure they like the "slow" money they've received from continued DVD sales, they've "dipped" into our fandom several times with editions. But I don't think at any point they considered Serenity a paying gig to follow up on after it's initial failure at the box office, regardless of the surety of the fandom ( they counted on that once and look what it got them ) or the DVD sales.
That's not to say that someone somewhere might not hit upon an idea ( think BSG re-working ) that will make FF/S a household name, nothing is impossible.
But the Uni corporate minds are easy to read. No money = no more. Money = more. Simple as that.
I wish as fervently as you do for more. Although I've come to be very contented with what we have and I love the new stuff everyone is doing.

There's nothing wrong with being disagreed with, especially when it's gently done

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

Serenity 2 obviously. As far as Universal not being happy with the Box office, often they don't make the money from the Box office take, it's from the DVD sales, from what I hear; much of the box office goes to paying actors and so on. Besides, the DVD sales for Serenity must have been pretty good, they released the CE right? Maybe I'm talking gibberish :)

Tuff choice, but "Serenity 2" please.
I love Riddick, I have the DVD's,...IMHO 'Chronicles'was weak, and I thought the story was done with that one. I don't know the Riddick world but I think "Serenity" has many more stories than Riddick.
