Hey Cellar oooh the joy of paper grading... sort of like very slowly slamming your hand in a car door:)
Ok back to eating crackers and peanutbutter ( lost all interest in meat a week or so ago... need protein)It's kind of like reverse craving...instead of craving stuff I just start hating the taste of stuff...

Ooh, spaghetti...! Now I know what dinner's going to be! Unless I actually read my local Papa John's pizza marquee correctly and it really did say that today only I can get an XL cheese pizza for only $1.99.
Teaching was kinda wacky today--my students got to give ME a grade (kinda, it was teacher evaluations at the university)!
And yes, yay for not throwing up! To have that on top of a dreary day would just be unfair.
Edit: some wise guy removed one of the ones apparently. :P Spaghetti it is!

I believe even if it's made the italian way with seafood ingredients included, they do commonly eat that with pasta. I found that out the hard way. Me no like seafoody bits. I like my subway version of marinara better.

Quote:Ya know, technically... if you put a sauce of any sort on top of pasta... it actually becomes, by default, "pasta sauce". Marinara or otherwise. Also? Feel free to look up any Italian restaurant menu in America, and you will inevitably find pasta with marinara sauce.

Apparently I've never had good marinara sauce then. It always seems too watery. 'Course, that could be on account of my liking rotini better than most pasta types, and it's just really hard to drain all the water out of rotini... But even in restaurants, it's like goopy (goopey?) tomatoes and some spices stewed in too much water. I'm trying to remember, does my Italian grandmother call pasta sauce "gravy"? I think she might...
Meh, I got lazy anyway, ate colby jack on crackers for dinner instead of all this delightful pasta, read a cheesy romance novel and waited for Castle to come on. :P
Hot SoCo would be nasty, really.... Ew.

Marinara (mah-ree-NAH-rah) - Means "sailor" in Italian (sailor style of tomato sauce). A spicy, quickly cooked pasta sauce of Italian origins but far more popular in American restaurants featuring southern Italian cuisines than in most of Italy

Avery this is for you.... super simple pasta sauce
2 tbs olive oil
1tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2 tsp chopped garlic
2 cans fire roasted tomatos with garlic ( I prefer Muir organic)
1 can tomato sauce
3 tbs each fresh or dried basil, oregano,
1 tsp thyme
2 tbs salt
In a pan heat olive oil. Add crushed red pepper and let it pop ( about 1 min) add garlic and saute until light brown. Add everything else and turn down heat to simmer for 30 min. serve
You can vary it up by sauteing meats and veg and tossing with pasta , but that's a basic red sauce:)

New Dresden files? Yay, it's been a while since there was a new novel, although the novella and the anthology containing a short story were nice to tide me over. Only question is, will we get it here today, or will I be faced with a repeat of Small Favour, where we Antipodeans had to wait weeks (months?) to get it in the stores here?
...and if I may enter the pasta sauce discussion, I'm more of a carbonara(sp?) type

Just for you Nico:)
1 pound dry spaghetti
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 ounces pancetta or slab bacon, cubed or sliced into small strips
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 large eggs
1 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, plus more for serving
Freshly ground black pepper
1 handful fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
Directions
Prepare the sauce while the pasta is cooking to ensure that the spaghetti will be hot and ready when the sauce is finished; it is very important that the pasta is hot when adding the egg mixture, so that the heat of the pasta cooks the raw eggs in the sauce.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until tender yet firm (as they say in Italian "al dente.") Drain the pasta well, reserving 1/2 cup of the starchy cooking water to use in the sauce if you wish.
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a deep skillet over medium flame. Add the pancetta and saute for about 3 minutes, until the bacon is crisp and the fat is rendered. Toss the garlic into the fat and saute for less than 1 minute to soften.
Add the hot, drained spaghetti to the pan and toss for 2 minutes to coat the strands in the bacon fat. Beat the eggs and Parmesan together in a mixing bowl, stirring well to prevent lumps. Remove the pan from the heat and pour the egg/cheese mixture into the pasta, whisking quickly until the eggs thicken, but do not scramble (this is done off the heat to ensure this does not happen.) Thin out the sauce with a bit of the reserved pasta water, until it reaches desired consistency. Season the carbonara with several turns of freshly ground black pepper and taste for salt. Mound the spaghetti carbonara into warm serving bowls and garnish with chopped parsley. Pass more cheese around the table.

I'm semi-irreplaceable? That's better than being a disposable minion at least.
While I prefer the artery clogging egg/cream sauces with pasta, I take my pizza with lots of meat (sometimes think the Domino's Eight Meats pizza was designed for me specifically).
Given that I did start re-reading Small Favour yesterday, the bookstore has until I finish reading it before they will feel my wrath, should Turn Coat not be available (so, until sometime after lunch today). According to their website, any online orders will ship in 1-6 weeks, but doesn't specify if the book is actually available yet or not... how hard could an 'in-store/not yet available' widget be to make?
I'm guessing the need for a cook denotes that you and Beth are no longer a combined entity.. which means I may be serving two potentially conflicting genius's (genii? what's the plural?).

Recipes, shiny!! I've copied and pasted them for future reference. Best part in my personal opinion? No onions in either recipe! (Onions give me a bad bellyache...)
So why is it that episodes on The Signal podcast are dated every other Tuesday, but one isn't up yet? HHMMMmmmmm!
stinkingrose, hope the boychild gets over the fever and icky soon, no fun... =\

* opens the pasta bar with plain lightly salted pasta for Navy. meatball, sausage, veal sauce for Hk, some fresh pesto, carbonara, alfredo, and aioli sauces for all)
Cellar in case you want it... super easy pesto
1 clove garlic chopped
2 handsful basil (fresh)
1 handful pinenuts or walnuts
juice of one lemon
1 tsp salt
1/2 c parmesan cheese
olive oil
Put garlic, basil, and pinenuts in blender and pulse. Then add lemon juice, salt, and parmesan, pulse a bit more, turn blender on medium and stream in olive oil until it's about the right consistency ( about the same texture of a good smoothie)

My hubby just surprised me with an awesome spaghetti and meat sauce the other night. Though I prefer my fav; spaghetti sauteed in butter and garlic, topped with some grated cheese. Mmmmm, pasta... *Homer Simpson drool*
I'm tired today. I was up way too late last night being worried, I have work later tonight, I lazed out and skipped the gym today (bad me!), OH and my laptop has a virus... today blows a lil...
BUT I'm watching one of my fav movies and eating comfort food. It's the lil things. ^^

Until the company gets FTL travel working, it'll take this henchman 18 hours or so to get to you (or for you to come here to be waited upon / cooked for), plus costs.
Another night at work over, although if tomorrow night is like this one, I'll be getting public holiday rates for the final few hours of it.

Yum, just what I need to warm me up after walking home from work in the wee hours of a cold day.

I think it was 3-3.5hrs from here to Cali, then another 18hrs to Sydney. Stupid lack of instant site-to-site transport...! Air New Zealand was pretty awesome, though.... I've been meaning to get back there, though. Such a lovely place. [nostalgia]

Hurriedly he moves through the bar strapping on an OD green PASGT ballistic helmet,a sharp grizzled expression leading the way.
"KILL 'EM ALL!", he screams, dashing through the bar into the breakables room, heavy steel door slamming behind him.
Meaty thumps and growls seep throught the slight gaps between door and frame...

Kinda tired.
Weary, may be an appropriate term, as well.
And a bit angry.
But it looks *so* nice outside - bright and blue - it sometimes makes me forget all that. Except for the bored. Bored is very noticeable....
Oops. Team meeting time! Yay! \o/ I think it's awesome how we manage to do the same stupid things over and over and never learn from our mistakes and never find out what the root problem is and then get all surprised when we fail again and again! Corporate America, I ((heart)) U.

Well, I suppose I should make some effort at looking awake, given it's lunch-ish. Hopefully the state manager won't have had too much of a rant on his visit today, but I guess I'll find out when I get to work tonight.
MsA, you can talk about Dresden to me as much as you want, just don't expect any intelligible replies (since I haven't got it yet).
