machines are not your friend... I much prefer hand sewing ( though that may have something to do with the incident in which I sewed my hair into the waistband of the shorts I was making)

O_O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ouch? good thing i have short hair :P

i dont mind hand sewing cuz im good at it and i can be precise with my stitches, but it takes such a gorram long time ><;; knowing the machine would make it easier for bigger projects.

So why exactly do you live in Texas if you dislike it so? I mean there are plenty of other states available ( 49 to be exact)

It had the best job offer out of college. Unfortunately if I had waited just a couple years to be born I might have just been offered a remote job where I could just live where I was so they wouldn't have to pay for moving me down here. I guess it would be more likely they wouldn't even be hiring.

Anyway the point is moved for work. Don't have any emotional attachment to Austin or TX.

That's pretty much the same reason I lived in Austin. I wasn't straight out of college, but work is work, you go where it is usually.

I don't know if Zeek has had the same experience, but my experience has been that there are only a handful of hubs for high tech work, Austin being one of them, but also San Francisco and Seattle, and maybe a couple of other places. I know lots of people in high tech and/or video games who hate those areas with a passion, but live there because that's where the work is.

I lucked out in that LA/SoCal has become a pretty big video game hub in the last few years, what with the proximity to Hollywood and a few of the giants of the industry being here (but really it's a pretty small percentage, most are in Austin, Seattle, or SF). Or maybe I lucked out in that I like SoCal, heh. I could also stand Seattle, having grown up in Portland, but I haven't ever had the chance to work there, just here, SF, and Austin.

I've also known more than a couple of people who had to move to Austin for work and got that "but it's Texas!" look, hehe. I tell them that Austin is a nice little town, if you can get used to not being near a huge city like LA or SF, and to look at a topographical map of Texas, and a political map. Austin is a little green/blue oasis in the middle of a bunch of red/brown, depending on which map you're looking at. ;)

There are actually things I miss about Austin, and this is making me all homesick for it, even though I consider California home, heh.

Yeah Austin isn't really that bad. Though Texas as a whole is not my thing.

I'm actually not deeply rooted anywhere. My ideal place to live has a warm climate, a major airport nearby (austin is lacking there IMO), and good internet access. That's about all I need. Everything else tends to fall into place if those are there.

Though I must say people who have never lived anywhere other than Texas make no sense when they say Texas is soooooo great. What the heck do you know unless you've been somewhere else that isn't great? I've lived in CA, IL, IN, MO and now TX. There's nothing all that special here trust me. The best thing they have is the Alamo Drafthouse and I bet that could be done somewhere else. :-P

I guess I just never think of texas as being a high tech mecca... I mean come on it's texas.
