There is some sort of translation issue with her software. Regardless of the story or the true happening it is always her way and no other. Not that she is a bad person. Just that she is and therefore there is reason to fear her. Kinda like Black Mambas and Great White Sharks. They exist and we may never run into them but they must still be feared.

When I get advice from someone, I usually thank them for their point of view and tell them that I will think about it. I do think it's (usually)nice that they have taken their time to share their thoughts with me. And then I really do think about it (although if it's really bad advice my thinking about it usually includes a chuckle).

If someone is pushy about it, then I'll let them know they need to back off. My tone in letting them know this will vary according to how pushy/rude they are.

NV yes my mom is a black mamba...giggle

See you're all assuming my mom is rational. You can look at her , holding absolute incontrovertable proff that she is wrong and show it to her. She will still vehemently deny your proof ( even if it were video tape of her doing it) and say you are wrong... nothing breaks through. Unfortunately this coincides with her unshakable belief that she is the ultimate expert in all things medical, scientific, spiritual, academic, mechanical, etc ( all things basically) and no one else's opinion is valid. Also if I told her she parented wrong she'd just tell me it was my fault because I wasn't " teachable" ( teachable is her code word for doing what she says when she says it)

She must not have taught you to be stubborn enough. You just say "well you should have raised me to be teachable!". This is the equivalent of a kid asking "why" over and over. There is no defense as a parent. They lose on both nature and nurture. So, you can just pretend humans are a blank slate and if they're disappointed with what they got it's their fault. At the very least you get a stalemate out of the situation.

Hurmmm ... there must be a way to get around that ...

IDEA (be proud, I don't get these very often!!):
Say something along the lines of "Mum, I'm old enough now to make my own decisions. I could be wrong, but let me make my own mistakes; Its easier to learn from your own mistakes than someone else's." (Y)

This is not my signature, I have to write this every time I post.

lolz, i love ppl like that. ><;; hate to say it, but she sounds like my grandmother a bit *slaps self for saying that* *hugs MsA* sounds like the only thing u can do is continue to ignore her advice.
my parents know they argue too much(they insist they don't, until i recount the arguments they've had while i or the bf were present), but they don't really seem to care because they always insist it's justified (even when they do it while company's over) and keep right on doing it, so i'm gonna have to train them the hard way *sigh*
