Less then 8 years after Richard Nixon destroyed the Republican Party...we had Ronald Reagan and three consecutive Republican presidential terms. Watergate lost Republicans the moral, ethical, and organizational necessities to ever win again, yet we've had (not counting Ford) twenty years of Republican and 12 of Democrat.

It all comes around, people hate Barrack Obama...they just haven't remembered how much. Its not the man...he's a fine fellow...its the attitude, lack of experiance, and bad policies. People are sick of it. Come 2012...it'll all come around and in 2016 we'll be fighting Hillary.

Somehow I don't see McCain handing everything over to Pelosi.

Republicans would have had tax cuts and infrastructure to the tune of $4-500 billion.

Dem's would have added pork and earmarks and instead of a photo-op in Denver they'd be having some kind of Smackdown over the pork. McCain would have had a fit over Pelosi's $30 million dollar mouse.

But hey...they won. As a lawyer I can tell you that only a fool or an idiot would sign something without reading it. Seems the only real way to tell a fool from an idiot here is whether they are in the House or the Senate.

If I were a Commerce Committee Staffer I'd have slipped some extras in:

Page 947, line 45: "and Joe the Staffer will be paid $10,000,000 from the General fund and shall have sole authority to make rules governing the disposition of Federal Lands and resources, and shall have the sole ability to amend legislation, and can expel members of the House for whatever reason and no vote shall be undertaken in the House without his authorization."

It would all be perfectly legal. Its in the bill, they passed it...the Courts would enforce it. "But we didn't read it" is a terrible defense.

We tried nothing - it is largely responsible for this mess, as in "Nothing" regulation-wise on mortgage/lending. The SEC saw no reason to regulate loans made to subprime candidates and Wall Street loved it and we cycled through boom and now bust in 4 short years.

"More than 2.3 million homeowners faced foreclosure proceedings last year, an 81 percent increase from 2007, and analysts say that number could soar as high as 10 million in the coming years, depending on the severity of the recession."

Doing nothing is like staring at a dying fire and hoping that will bring it back. You have to fan the flames to get it back, or throw mountains of greenbacks on it. It's also a heck of a lot more fun! We're going to get some new bridges and concrete stuff! I wish I owned stock in cement mixers.

AU, Jong, et al.

Buck up!

Eventually voters will grow tired of Democrats wasting money and trampling our constitution with big government programs justified by empty rhetoric and transparent scare tactics. Then the Republicans will once again have their shot at wasting money and trampling our constitution with big government programs justified by empty rhetoric and transparent scare tactics. What comes around goes around.

And around, and around, and ...

You then can blame Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for the 'NOTHING' regulation over Fannie and Freddie. Bush's attempt to reign in those agencies, as well as the Dems vitriolic defense of the very same, is well documented.

You DO understand that the building and repair of our infrastructure more accurately falls into area of the Federal Budget, right ?

This isn't the Federal Budget, THAT fight is yet to come.

And if you think we're done w/ " stimulus " bills, guess again. We're gonna be doing this all over again NEXT year too!

Wait and see.

A concern of the GOP is that the people aren't informed enough to understand their policies, while a fear of the Dems is that the people WILL understand.

But the GOP won't get it right either, and that's what pisses me off. They had their chance, got greedy, put their hands over their ears to block out the voices of those who AGREED with them, at first, and then started to act like Democrats - Lite. This little dance, the back and forth between bad and even much worse, continues between these two dandies, like some theatrical sword fight , up a spiral staircase. Up, and up, and around and around they go, never once taking time to figure out that, eventaully, the steps are going to end, and there won't be anything for them to stand on. Only open air, and a VERY long drop to the bottom.

Ok, I blame them for doing the NOTHING that got us here. I'm sorry Bush failed to stop them.

I certainly don't think we're done, not for a second. I heard whispers of $1.5 trillion needed. Man! We really know how to f*ck things up don't we?!

It's worse than you know. Japan tried to do the very same thing we're trying now, and it didn't work.

Yes, I remember when he came on TV saying that these agencies had to be controlled, or a potential meltdown was going to occur. And he pleaded with the American peeps to support him in his fight against Dodd & Frank's attack on the very sanity of the free-market system. Yes, it was a valiant & very public struggle, wasn't it?
Funny, the way some revisionists talk, you'd think Bush just told his peeps to "look into it" before he got distracted by the next thing came along....

I read about that, and how they have all of these public works "monuments" that aren't being used and didn't really stimulate anything. Wasn't our very own Mr. "oh! you mean those taxes..." Geitner on some panel related to that?
So maybe we/he learned from that what not to do?
