Sad today...

It's probably been posted a hundred times. but I have to get it off my chest.

I never knew of firefly when it was on...well no way I could have, was in Iraq.

When Serenity launched I was intriged, and ended up watching it. Best Sci-fi movie ever. then I found out it was a continuation from a TV series and went out and bought the series.

After having watched it through a second time I feel sadness that it's done. I find myself not wanting to watch it again as I got so much enjoyment from it.

I dont understand why this show never made it, as I do not know how or if it was marketed well, given by the air dates being out of sequence, I guess it was mishandled greatly.

I guess there is still hope, as there was a Firefly MMO announced, but thats all i've heard reguarding firefly in general.

again sorry if theres a million of these, but I feel profoundly touched by firefly and needed to express it.

I still have hopes that if Dollhouse does well, Joss is going to announce a summertime Firefly mini-series.

And there's the comics, at least...

Yeah, seen the comercials for dollhouse... seems a little risky but will probably work, as it is very different from everything else on these days.

I'll have to check on those comics..

Marketing errors of incompetence, rather than malice, i think, killed the show. Joss should own up to some of those being his. I think you earn the right to tell a story like this, by pandering first. I say this as a real Joss fan, but when even I can see the strategic problems, it is imho an issue. You need to build that support base before launching into an arc. I think Buffy survived because of its initial episodic nature. Real story arcs came later. Alternatively, he could make an entire show of pandering, get rich, and then finance it himself, but as a dabbling writer, I'm beginning to grasp this harsh reality.

Fox comes in for a lot of abuse on this board for the marketing. There's no question a lot of blame belongs there, I'm just giving a counterpoint, speaking the treason that no one else will say. They've has learned some, but still has a lot to learn, and TV is dying in the meantime. Episode shuffle didn't help, episodes were played out of order, a fear with Dollhouse also.

Fortunately, it's tied to Sarah Connor now, which regardless of what people think, is basically always good, and the more chance of shared audience, the better. Also, friday is pretty sweet. Fox seems to be bending over backwards to help, they just don't get the serial.

I like Sarah Connor, personally. Summer Glau makes a mean terminator, and it's an interesting character exploration. The show itself is no Firefly, but it has its merits.

A lot of people here will have a lot of recommendations of things that you might like.

As for the FF MMO, it's been shelved, I'm trying to get together a group to build one, under the radar as it were. I'm working on some other stuff at the moment.

Anyway, stick around, this place is a pretty good source for new suggestions, exchange of ideas, and we have the occasional fantastic fight ;)

Hey JC, don't sweat it. This is the place for shoulders to "cry" on. I felt pretty much the same way when it was canceled (well, actually I was more steamed than sad then) but when I found out that the series was on DVD I went right out and bought it.

There isn't a day that passes that we get another passenger climb aboard and declare undying love for this series, the story, the characters and Joss. BTW, before I forget, I'm damn glad you made it back home alive and I hope all is well with you.

"I guess it was mishandled greatly." You said it. Mishandled is a kind word for it. Fox constantly preempted the program and treated it like a bastard child. Airing it out of sequence, for the type of story that was to unfold, meant sure death for the new show. Only true devoted fans and sci-fi geeks (of which I'm a proud member) would stick with the show all the way. I didn't miss an episode, I knew it was special right away.

If this site had a banner flying high in front of of the millions of Browncoats throughout the world, it would read:

"I feel profoundly touched by firefly and needed to express it."

I do have one question though, and I think it must be that you are confused as to when Firefly was first broadcast. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we didn't go into Iraq until Spring of 2003, right? Firefly ran from September-December 2002. Possibly you were there when the dvds came out, but not when it first aired?

No worries, we never get tired of new people coming on and telling us how they found the show. We're glad you took the time to post and tell us how you feel about Serenity / Firefly.

Have you seen the comic mini series? "Those Left Behind" and "Better Days"? Both excellent mini series that continue the story.
