Welcome to the party.

There's a trick I just learned lately- you put the cursor over a Username and a little line pops up on the bottom of the browser, some sort of hotlink, that shows that person's user number. You are # 35470, which means that there are 35469 other folks out there who feel just about the same as you do. Most all of us have posted the same thoughts.

There's more of us every day. Hang on, keep hopin', do something to show a high profile when you can. It may be a long haul, but none of us are going to give up.

Oh, and BTW, do watch the eps again. Don't deny yourself the pleasure. Betcha a nickle you missed some favorite moment.

*console JC* I saw the movie preview for Serenity and thought it was going to be awesome, and then a friend of mine converted me.

I had enjoyed shows before, but nothing before or since, has grabbed me as Firefly did. I didn't even realize there were forums, podcasts and even shindigs being held. And yet, I admit, it took me another year to create a login here and start posting... I was afraid that I'd log in and then the site would go down or people would fall away and my heart would break all over again.

I am slowly listening through my two fav BDS/BDM podcasts, The Signal and Firefly Talk, reading the comics and finding other outlets. And I keep on hoping.

Just gotta say, I finished watching Serenity today and I'm in complete agreement. What a sad day. To think I only just discovered this fantastic, short-lived show and now . . . it's over (at least for now - I'm keeping my hopes up).

I, like so many, didn't pay too much attention to Firefly when it was first aired (for which I now hang my head in shame). I don't even really remember hearing too much about it. It seemed right up my alley, but too many other things were on that occupied my tv watching time, I suppose. But the rumble of how great the show was kept gradually increasing to a dull roar. So I "broke down" and watched the pilot "Serenity" on Hulu.com. Then I watched the next episode and the next . . . good grief! This show is awesome! How it was so badly handled is beyond me. I'm hooked and I do find myself moved by this show like almost no other. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but . . . great writing, great acting, great effects, great chemistry between the actors. I mean c'mon! Is Hollywood really that dumb?

I do have one question, though . . . in the series, Simon keeps saying he has no idea what they (the Alliance "school") did to River or why and it was implied that he spent his entire fortune on getting other people to help her escape. Yet in the movie, he was the one that got her out AND he got what I can only assume was a complete briefing on what they did to her AND why (at least in general - making her a weapon). Was there a reason this jump was made? Is this explained anywhere - that Simon had a general idea all along and was hiding his motive?

Well, either Simon never told the crew EVERY detail of her escape, and his understanding of her condition to protect her for some reason, or Joss had to throw out a quick & simple back story for River so the non-Firefly-fan movie goin' public could get up to speed fast for the movie.

I tend to go with the former, rather than the latter, myself.

It took forever for my two synapses to connect and watch the show.

I never heard of it when it was on.

I saw Serenity in the theatres and never realized it had been a tv show previously (and yeah, I thought it was a great movie when I saw it, better than the new Star Wars. I even bought the DVD for my brother for Christmas).

My friend let me read his RPG manual for Serenity, by which time I'd forgotten ever SEEING the movie and therefore didn't realize they were the same, but I loved the concept of the RPG. And I still didn't know about the show.

Until finally I saw Dr. Horrible, heard about Firefly, and decided to watch it. So... I'm officially an idiot, and I hope my sort of pathetic story of missed opportunities helps redeem every other newbie out there, because there's no way anyone has been more dense than me.

Anyway.

I've always thought that the movie retconned that on purpose. That in the Serenity pilot episode, Simon was more concerned about the crew and it's very intimidating captain believing his story than he was about taking credit for his amazing infiltration job.

You sir are correct, but my job usualy kept me in the field training for war... so in a sense Iraq caused me to miss it, as that year leading up was wierd as to the amount of training we did, one would think Iraq was on the table well before the public knew or even us ground pounders.

I know what you mean. I'm going through withdrawal waitin on my blu-rays to get here. At least I can re-live the episodes on-demand. And then there's that funny little thing called hope. Until I hear Joss say that it is over, I always have hope in my corner!

we are big and we are mighty ,we basically own the netz,if things went off how many time something was googled we would have our second seriese now,but as things go now aparently ownly tv hits count ,and i gave up on t.v ages ago,p.s watch dead set second best show ever made :)

I am ever hopeful, because even though I know there is little hope... but never the less I know that Joss & all the actors still love Firefly/Serenity with all their hearts....

So if Dollhouse is a huge hit?
If Nathan Fillion is a huge hit in 'Castle'?
If Summer Glau becomes a big star from 'T:SCC'...
if any of those things were to happen, then it could very well make Universal decide that a sequel to 'Serenity' might be a good idea...

The first movie DID break even (from DVDs) and if Universal ever thinks that a sequel could be marketed with bankable names then they would probably be open to the idea...
they know that we haven't gone away,
so I keep hoping.

I think that Chrisisall said it best in answer to your question about Simon's saving River story -

My theory is that, in the series pilot, he gave them the "short" version and in the BDM we get what actually happened. I think this way mainly because of what happened in "Ariel."

In that episode Simon knew how to get around the facility and what to expect from the "feds" security. It seems to me that he could have learned some of those moves from an underground movement, a band of freedom fighters, Browncoats even. I also get the feeling that Simon wanted to be involved in her rescue to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible.

I really don't think he could believe his "little" sister could be capable of being a lethal weapon. I keep thinking about his "she just wants to be a kid" line. Yes the doctor did say all the subjects were programmed with combat training, but throughout the series River never exhibited any of her combat skills until War Stories and, even
then, Simon could not believe his sister could shoot like that.

He may not have been a smooth criminal but love can be a motivating factor, as witnessed in the "My Turn" scene when we get our second glimpse of the Rivernator.
