Got to admit, I did not see that coming in the last episode. They are going to be working overtime to deal with this new twist. Get Walter all the chewing gum he wants.

I love "Fringe". Having met John Noble a couple of years ago after he played Denethor in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy of films I was intrigued to see how the new series would shape up and am delighted with the story set up, the excellent casting and the slowly developing relationship issues and themes. I don't see it being very "X-Files" at all, in that there are no aliens and spaceships though there does seem to be a central conspiracy with Massive Dynamics incorporating all the shadowy misdirection of the Cigarette Smoking Man. I think John Noble is brilliant as Walter and I love that even while he fascinates me I am filled with conflicting emotions like sympathy, horror and humour to name just a few.
The relationship between Walter and Peter is fascinating, often awkward and almost painful. I worry about what things Walter did to his son (besides electrocuting him as a child) and what else lies buried that will slowly come to light perhaps to haunt them. I like that even though Peter could have turned his back on his father at the outset he reluctantly goes along with helping, even though it puts himself at risk to do so. As if the answers he really needs are not to the Pattern but to his relationship with his father. A lost boy still wanting to come home. And Olivia has her own baggage. Astrid is also a good character and her often dry delivery is just another flavour in a beautiful mix. I am happy to say I am hooked on "Fringe". Great show!

I'm beginning the think the purpose of The Pattern was to get Walter Bishop out of the mental institution. Every freakin' thing they've come up against has been tied to experiments he was doing twenty years ago.

Anna Torv is completely fascinating to watch...
Smart chicks are a total turn-on anyway , but in addition to that , she's very emotive , thoughtful , and fun-to-watch...

I know she's from Oz , with that gorram-sexy accent (REE-OW !) , but I figure Torv is a name of Northern European origin , perhaps from Scan-Dan-Avia...Maybe Swedish , Danish , or Finnish...

Hey All
Just wanted to bump this thread up again, since FRINGE came back last night. Really good episode that, in Walters words, was rather tense.
But there was a great opportunity for some really funny humor that the writer's missed. When Olivia's in the hospital and the bald guy that she took down for sexual harrasment is telling her about the Fringe Division and the people that are members of it are liabilities. He gives her the riot act, mentions Peter and Walter's past (probably as exposition for the people tuning in for the first time who missed the first ten episodes), but forgets to mention Astrid.
I just thought it would have been so funny for him to say "And Astrid Farnsworth. I don't know who the Hell she is but I bet she's a liability to the bureau." And word gets back to her and she goes "Oh no, don't lump me in with you guys. I'm just an assistant waiting for my own episode." Kind of like in THE SIMPSONS when after the hurricane that destroys Ned Flanders' house and he finally snaps and rants against all the people in town, he goes up to Lenny and says "You, I don't know who the Hell you are, but I'm pretty sure you've pissed me off." And then Lenny goes "Hey, I just got here. What's going on?"

Interesting Fringe last night. Reminded me a little of Terminator with the fight and the gun play. I like how this show mixes these elements together. We have Walter working in the lab and doing funny mind games with his son and tonight we have shootouts at the OK Corral.

Okay, I watched one Fringe, with the brain stealing serial killer. It didn't grab me. I lacked a care about the principle characters, and the story, catch the serial killer, was very tired. The science was terrible, but that's to be expected. The megacorporation and govt. agency project are getting very tired.
I guess the main hinge is that the detectives are the storytellers in a mystery, and they have to in themselves be interesting. About this new crew, Mulder and Scully they weren't. Maybe I saw a bum ep. any thoughts?
