Imponderables: Already Wanting The Weekend

I got up extra early to watch it -- I usually don't get up until after 10am Pacific, and it would have all been over by then. I've been a fierce and vocal Obama supporter for about a year and a half now, but I'm still in a bit of shock that we made it this far. I still have the receipt from when I voted from him in the primaries, and then again in the general election, both in my wallet (which isn't really a wallet, but a card case, so I don't carry much in there). So I've been counting down to this day for awhile.
My staunchly conservative sister called me right after the inaugural speech. She's working towards an ROTC commission, and she was watching with some of her squad members, all in uniform, and she said they stood at attention while Obama was sworn in. She told me she was really impressed by the speech, and is feeling better about Obama as president than she thought she would.
Anyway, I know that not everyone is happy with the change we're seeing today, but that's the nature of our election system. But I hope we're all able to pull together as a nation, support the President and each other, and do what needs to be done to move forward. And I hope that the next four years will be better than the last.

CK! How have you been? I've been waiting for you to show up sometime this year. On the 1st I realized that you might have been in Austin for new years. I went to a browncoat new year's eve party and the day after I was like...I wonder if CK was in town. It would have been cool to actually meet an imponderer. It was a pretty fun party too. It was recession themed. So, everyone was dressed like hobos except for a couple who dressed super fancy and went as rich people who weren't affected.
About Obama, I'm hopeful that he can get this country back on track. Though deep down I feel like it's just not going to happen. I pretty much think unless we find some magical economic boom that can't be outsourced that the US is done as a world power. We've got a long way to fall before we settle into our place in the world. I feel like even if Obama can fix our foreign policy and stuff that we're still headed for some of the worst years in our history.

Lol, Zeek. I actually flew home on the 31st. And then was too tired to go out and do anything that night, heh.
I'm definitely hopeful when it comes to Obama. Especially for things like outsourcing -- the root of that problem is in our tax code that rewards outsourcing and penalizes employing Americans. If it were the other way around, our economy could be a lot different, even given the differences in wages overseas. One of the things that makes me most hopeful is Obama's attitude of re-evaluating everything and looking everywhere for good ideas. We aren't going to fix anything with more of the same, but I don't think we got more of the same today.

I give that to him, there is no where to go but up in many situations. It is gonna be a hard year for the man. I just feel bad for so many people who see his being sworn into office as a saving grace for all people of the United States. He made a lot of promises and many of them are bound to be broken, twisted, or corrupted. I was exchanging texts with my bud John and to be honest, that feeling is a lot like watching the galaxy hand over power to Palpatine with no knowledge of what they were doing. There is an upset balance in the whole thing.

Palpatine? Really??
I think everyone feels a bit like that when someone from "the other side" is inaugurated. I can't tell you how angry and disappointed I was when Bush got re-elected in 2004. But this is a democracy, and in four years we'll get another chance to speak our minds. Obama isn't a dictator -- or Emperor! -- that we'll be stuck with indefiniately.

Not really like we're stuck with him, but the descisions he will make will imact people like me more than many others. The feeling I'm talking about is a dreaded shadow of uncertainty. When any person comes out of nowhere and gains a sudden storm of support and is labeled a savior or the carrier of hope I tend to get a bit sceptical. Something about his body language and the style of speaking he uses really bothers me. I tend to use my instincts on such things and tend to be right. I've gotten myself into trouble with people voicing those instincts. And it isn't so much the opposition of someone from the "other side", I agree with most of what he says. But the people he is surrounded by and their views will come into play with his descisions. They are counter productive to the promises and views we've been told he has.
Of course I've been shunned by many who don't put stock in uncertainty and instinct. Basically been told I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm ignorant, and I'm paranoid.

I wouldn't go so far as to say you're ignorant or paranoid. ;)
There's a lot to be worried about in our current world, but also a lot to be hopeful about, if you look at it the right way. But it'll be what it'll be, there's nothing any of us can do about it now. Bush and his team have had far-reaching effects too, which I think can be argued got the country into a lot of trouble. But we're still here, we survived. I have a hard time imagining Obama could get us into worse trouble than Bush did, but even if he did, we would survive that too. I'm hopeful that he will do much more good than harm, but even the worst President can't destroy the country, not really.
