However AgentRouka and I have been stirring the pot somewhat and things have kicked off in a slightly different direction and the thread has snowballed (pardon the mixed metaphor). So what follows is a series of Blurbs a little out of order, but all the same, Firefly related....
Please feel to add, join in, suggest, digest and generally throw in you two cents worth should you so be inclined. It's just a bit of a hoot.... and really there's no particular direction.

Season 3. Episode 12/24. Title: Mary Celeste.

On their return from the Abbey, where Book was doing a stint, Wash - piloting the sister shuttle, is concerned that Serenity is drifting. When both men board Serenity they find that none of the crew are onboard. Worse still there is no sign of a struggle. They have simply vanished.
The mystery is compounded further by the fact that neither man can think of a situation where any abduction of a crew would result in the ship being left behind, unless it were for a trap. With Wash wondering just what it is he could have done - River suddenly appears on the bridge! Wash, amazed, asks River what happend to Zoe and the crew and she informs him that she was told to hide - but that the others were taken...
While Wash tries to make sense of things Book sneaks away and takes the second shuttle. Book later radios Wash saying he will find the crew and that once they are reunited they must make a run for safety and to not wait, nor follow him [Book] as they are all in great danger. Barely able to take a breathe Wash then catches a glimpse of an Alliance cruiser coming up across his bow. He's just about to tell River to hide once again when through the static he hears Mal telling him to prepare to be boarded!?
With the entire crew now on board and reunited and the Alliance cruiser on it's way the crew of Serenity try and make sense of what has happened. Wash explains Books' request that they not follow him, but Mal without a beat ignores Wash and tells him to plot a course for directly where the shuttle was headed. Wash still concerned, is rebuked by Zoe who explains to him that it was not 'us' they wanted but the good Shepherd. Book is clearly up to something and Mal don't like that.

Wash adn River.. you know, we never DID get to see those two interact! Even in fic it's barely ever done. Mysterious, that... Have they ever shared dialogue?? I like that it's happening here. :)

NO kidding. :) I like the unapologetic sneakiness. It's very Operative-like and smooth and at the same time completely at odds with the bumbling sweetness book can display about is faith with people like Mal and River. It's a chilling contrast! I see how an incredibly amount of tension can be built around this arc, involving the whole crew... Hmm..!

Fanty N' Mingo, episode 14
Double Trouble
In the series first crossover with it's parent show, Firefly, Fanty and Mingo pose as Alliance Operatives to bust up a slave labour outfit that recently sprung up on Shadow (They actually want to plunder its riches, but since they've become BDH's in their own right, why not kill two birds?), however, Mal & Company are there for the same purpose. Hilarity ensues and guns blaze in this homage to the screwball comedies of the 1940's.

Yes they don't interact much. Maybe it has something to do with Wash not wanting kids - and with River suppose to be sixteen, perhaps to him she's just a child... *Shruggs* Who knows... ?

Season 2: Epsiode 1 : Title: FOOL'S GOLD

If you remember we left the crew at the end of Season One to enjoy their shore leave.
Well we now rejoin the crew as they all make their returns to Serenity. It's fun and frolics for a while as each crew member greet one another - before River notices that Jayne isn't present - (explains the joy). Anyway after some bravado from Mal about: "If Jayne aint on this boat in the next hour we leave without him" and a few of the crew saying " Which one's Jayne again?" The crew decide to go back down to Medea (fictional leisure planet) in search of Jayne.
When they arrive at Medea, there's no sign of Jayne but there is a tall tale circulating about some wild-eyed drunk thug, who had been bragging about how he's an heir to an inheritance, and so "Filthy rich!" that he's "Buying everyone a drink!" A little later Mal is approached by a 'Gregor Finch' who claims to be one of Jayne's kidnappers and that unless Mal hand over the "Thug's" inheritance they'll kill Jayne. As you can imagine there's not much urgency at first and Mal and the crew have to think hard before they actually move into action...
So with requisite reluctance Mal conceeds to help his crew member, and while the rest of the crew return to Serenity, Mal, Zoe and Book arrange a meet-up with Gregor Finch. The situation is tense. Mal fully aware that he has no bargaining tool, or Jayne's supposed inheritance to assist, he has to use all his cunning and guile to appease Finch and his hired hands. Of course that fails and there is major gun-play! Somehow Jayne isn't shot! to everyone's amazement as Zoe admits to aiming for him, and Finch manages to escape. A few of Finch's cronnies bite the dust, but not before one of them whispers something to Mal out of earshot. Mal suddenly yells to everyone to get back to Serenity, and they scarper straight away.
Later back on Serenity Book approaches Mal about what the dying man said that spooked him so. Mal evasive as ever say's it was nothing and leaves Book to contemplate. He heads to his bunk but is stopped by a meek looking Jayne - who makes apology for being "'Napped!" in his drunken state. Shyly and with a brief explanation how: "No one, not never. Came back for me, Mal." Jayne hands Mal a piece of paper, says "Thanks," and skulks off. With more weary than interest Mal opens the parchment and reads it's contents...
A beat
.....Before Mal does his trademark: "Nhuh!"

Chris - Great stuff!!!! I'm liking the Fanty and Mingo show! Brilliant. Ahhh what might have been eh? Damn you Fox Damn you all to helllllll!!!!!

But Wash does want kids. Just not on Serenity. Something I do not blame him for, at all. It's really the moment where Zoe scares me the most, the way she utterly dismisses his concerns in such a serene, blithe way in "Heart of Gold". As if his feelings on the subject don't matter. That cemented to me that their marriage would have come under extreme strain if not fallen apart temporarily during the series.

I'm a little shocked! Mal, you... argh! Unless Jayne has been more insufferable than usual. What's this inheritance he's bragging about??

Ah the 'manscuse'. There are always more reasons not to do things, than there are to do them... I always read that scene as Wash using Serenity as an excuse... Oh sure it's completely practical, but... Kids... y'know... You just kinda get on with it 'spose...

Hey if it weren't for Kaylee pointing out to the good ol' captain, that if Mal were to leave Jayne, he'd most likely blab about River and Simon - Mal would have left him there yet!

Indeed - the shock reveal in season two is that Jayne is a wealthy mercenary. At least he was until he gave it to Mal. Turns out Jayne doesn't trust his own self with that much money - given what happened on Medea. That 'learnt' him :D Turns out Jayne's Ma died at the end of season one, and contrary to his previous tales of woe - Jayne was from rich stock! Who'd have thunk it? What a complex character our Jayne is -

THis takes place after Wash dies, which I would place mid-series (IF it must happen.)
The Yellow Brick Man
After a slow-building, painful arc of increasing emotional volatility for Zoe, we are sucked into a colorful swirl of an episode taking place in a hallucinatory dreamscape.
After Zoe is hurt and knocked out in a U-Day bar fight, Ghost Wash, narrator River, brighty-bright colors and a homage to the wizard of Oz very reminiscent of Wash's dinosaur tales leave tin soldier Zoe realizing that she had a heart all along. Wash didn't give it to her, he only helped her remember that she had one and he always will.
Interspersed with the dream-bits are normal color, crew bits dealing with the way the developing political unrest post-Miranda affects the crew as a whole with everyone extremely insecure about the future of their lifestyle and no one more so than Mal. Cowardly Lion Mal tells them they are better of separate, even though it's not what he really wants, Scarecrow River hides out in the informary with Zoe (while narrating the dream bits) and has no easy fix ready, while Dorothy Inara watches news of rioting on Sihnon and contemplates which place is no place like home.
We close on Zoe waking up with a new will to live and be happy, faced with the bad news of Mal's separation plans and everyone's uncertainty. She looks both resigned and determined. Like anything is possible now that Zoe's back in full force.
