Now I have two questions:
1)Why did the sick man smuggle the biohazardous material onto Serenity? To cause an epidemic, like a terrorist attack? Was he going to do the same on Calisto? Or did he have an entirely different reason?
2) Badger has the means to receive the crew in full quarantine mode? That is Very Interesting, since he struck me as a fairly small crime lord, sitting where he was. Does he have that stuff just lying around? Is he into medical smuggling or organ smuggling (Tracey??) or... biohazard smuggling??
No wait, make that three questions: The two episodes in between, what are they about? :D

If I had any gift for plot at all, I might, but the sad thing is that I cannot actually construct anything beyond a scene or two. I love picking things apart, which is what fuelled my fic back when I wrote, but I am a failure at actually creating a story. A painful truth. I leave it up to people with real imagination!

Basically, the idea is that there will always be a black market for such things. This particular individual, perhaps a disgruntled worker, or a student looking for a fast buck, decides this is easy money. However he succumbs to either the stolen material or is gunned down by the requisite authorities. I didn't really finish his part of the tale, but I had it in mind that Badger would have furnished the audience - via dialogue - with some explanatory exposition about how biochemical fascilities are targets for just such a thing.

Ok my take on Badger is that he knows a great many people. People who, for whatever reason, owe him a favour. Perhaps he leant them money, or he managed to supply illegal medicine, or he provided an alibi etc and so forth. So when times such as these come up, he basically leans on an individual to pay up. It's a contrivance I grant you
but in this case Badger knew the guy who runs the quarantine unit on Persephone and it just happens that this guy lets a few things slip by quarantine for a price. Badger uses such information as blackmail.Quote:

Ha,ha! Well There will be good times for the crew. They have some money of course from Jayne's inheritance, and moral is up. Kaylee and Simon are snuggly - and consider sharing the one room!!! Or is that too soon? (ask the captain :D) Book feels more in tune with his mission, now that the crew, full of joy, take time to listen to him a little more. Zoe and Wash take a few trips to City resorts and maybe visit family(?) Jayne spends his time cleaning his guns and going 'sexing' as he puts it, but stays away from gambling and drinking for a change. River begins writing a strange coded journal and wonders about the ship studying her lines, and Inara and Mal are talking nicely to each other and pondering a life beyond crime.

Yeah but when I look back and realise I missed soooo many opportunities.... Curse my sentimental nature (anyway I reflect on those times with humour) If ever I have kids my advise will be: "Don't listen to me I didn't have a clue at your age."

Ok a few things:
1) Can I read any of your past fic?
2) I would like to suggest something as regards to writing...
•Start at the end. (I find that when I have the end idea, making the story reach that point is a good deal easier)
•Keep it really simple at the start (Like drawing, you always do a skecth first) Later you can add in a scene, or a charcater and work that into what you already have.
•A Title as early as possible often helps.
•Post it notes! (These things have saved my bacon on numerous occasions) Once I have the basic story I break it down into acts, and scenes - with a little footnote saying: "Moment of Drama or Comedy or Mystery etc. THen post it up on a wall. That way you can see if maybe you have too many dramatic scenes next to one another or perhaps one act is missing comedy....
3) Everybody has imagintion. I like to think it matures with age as we do. It's not better or worse necessarily but more mature. I can tell from your Wizard of Oz episode that you have plenty of imagination! Also your writing is very eloquent, (as in your posts are always well written) I think reading what you imagine would be easy and effortless.
4) Poetry. Reading poetry is wonderful for understanding the economy of words. It's a must.
5) Don't fear criticism. (I'm sure you don't by the way - It's just a rule employ for work)
These are just my thoughts. I realise writing is a very personal thing so I may be way off. But thought I'd relay it just in case.

That is very true! I love when people are capable of condensing a great deal of meaning into very few words, and use language very consciously!
You're very sweet to give me advice.
I'm not sure I'll have find the inspiration or ambition - and most of all patience - to come up with a plot for a longer story, though. I rely on short bursts of inspiration and then finish a story in one sitting. Attempts at anything else have always ended with me losing interest. I do admire people who have the discipline and passion to write on one plotty piece for a longer time, but I'm quite content sticking to shorter pieces.

Hey Agentrouka - I have been checking them out. They're superb. I love the one where they all are turned into infants. Very funny, and what's this lark about not having plot points? You have them. That tie up with Mal seeing Inara then Jayne without thier clothes is a brilliant plot point. Just unconventional but it's still a plot point. Nice work.

You know much of Dickens was short bursts of inspiration... Ok he wrote chapters of inspiration, but he did serialise his work - which kind of lends itself to the shorter format

Ok I had this idea... Haven't really given it too much thought though so I'll lay down some events.
Lets see....

Season 2. Epsiode 9. Title : Lions Den Part I

During his shift on the bridge Wash unscrambles a signal, that when decoded mentions the destroying of a high class Alliance Cruiser. He presents the news to the crew who are divided by it's significance. Wash is not expecting much support other than from Book, which he gets, but when Mal is on his side he thinks he must be dreaming!?
Simon is clearly not keen, as is neither River or Kaylee - obviously siding with Simon- and Jayne doesn't see the profit it in. Inara would rather they not put Simon and River in danger and so thinks it a bad idea, as does Zoe - however as it is her husband and Mal thinking to do the noble thing she sides with them and the crew 'splintered' go in search of the Cruiser under supposed threat.
When they are within range of the cruiser, Inara, Kaylee, River, Simon and Book (Mal asks Book to tag along to look after them all. By now Mal has fully accepted that Book is no 'ordinary' Shephard) - take flight in Inara's shuttle and will await a later rendezvous with Serenity. (They hope)!
This leaves the rest to make contact with the Alliance cruiser. Which they do but are met by a less than accommodating Alliance officer and Serenity is boarded then impounded. Jayne is all full of: "I told you so's" at this point. The crew are taken off Serenity and imprisoned.
Under questioning, Mal assures the Officer that his intentions are noble and that if he just listen to the decoded signal he will hear for himself that they are now ALL in danger! However Zoe and Mal's past isn't allowing the Officer to move beyond his prejudice and they make no headway - (plus he is aware that Firefly class ships are on alert to be examined) . There is a moment between Zoe and Mal where they acknowledge the fact that this cruiser is actually occupied by family's moving off-world to one of the Terraformed planets to begin a new life. This makes their plight all the more desperate and they are just about to divise a plan to break out when a huge explosion rips across the cruiser! There is mass panic and confussions as huge sections of the cruiser crumbles to pieces.

...Mal, Zoe, Wash and Jayne pick themselves from out the debris that collapsed around them. Once Mal is sure they're all well enough to walk, he digs about the rubble... He uncovers a bloodied alliance officer and with a resigned drop of his head, indicates the poor soul is dead. Zoe gives Mal a- 'This aint good' glance.
Meantime segments of the cruiser continue to explode sending splinters of ship hurtling through space. One such huge piece flies furiously close and just past the shuttle of Inara! Book, Kaylee, Simon and River are all by her side, scanning the area for signs of Serenity. Book continues in vain to radio to Serenity. Nothing. They're all visibly anxious.
Mal, Zoe, Wash and Jayne make their way to the docking bay. It's frought with danger; bodies, mini explosions, general panic and crumbling fuselage do their best to halt the gangs progress but they manage to make it to Serenity. She seems in tact. Wash engages the necessaries and they blast away from the carnage of the crumbling vessel. Once free from the space debris - Book's assuring vocal tones come through the radio. Relief!
Back on Serenity the crew greet one another. There is an uncharacteristic show of affection from Inara who unashamedly grabs Mals arm and let's it linger just long enough to make it mean much more. He obliges by giving her a silent prolonged look into her eyes. Kaylee asks what next which prompts Mal straight back into Captain mode and he tells them - they're going to have to find out just who did this. When Kaylee asks why? Zoe informs her of the family's onboard who most likely all but perished on that cruiser. Plus Mal adds - someone is going to be looking to point the blame, and right now Serenity and her crew are the most likely candidates - meaning they have to clear thier name. Best way to do that (as alliance won't listen to him) is to catch the people responsible.....
and Mal asks Kaylee to scan Serenity for homing beacons. If Alliance follow protocol - they've tagged Serenity and right now they're setting off all kinds of Alliance bells and whistles. That'll only slow them down in their quest to find the real culprits!
Cut to:
An alliance HQ. A Firefly isometirc diagram surrounds the control room. Several officers observe the display. One gestures to a minion who immediately engages the radio... A 'Wave' is sent: To find and destroy Firefly class ship "SERENITY"!.....

Well quite possibly - but I think the uncertian nature of the signal leaves them rather more pragmatic, and they maybe look to maintain keeping River away from Alliance interaction. Add to that the fact that Kaylee and Simon are now more of an item and Kaylees motives become more intent on what Simon would want...
