" Local officials in Shandong Province have apparently found a cost-effective way to deal with gadflies, whistle-blowers and all manner of muckraking citizens who dare to challenge the authorities: dispatch them to the local psychiatric hospital.
In an investigative report published Monday by a state-owned newspaper, public security officials in the city of Xintai in Shandong Province were said to have been institutionalizing residents who persist in their personal campaigns to expose corruption or the unfair seizure of their property. Some people said they were committed for up to two years, and several of those interviewed said they were forcibly medicated.
The article, in The Beijing News, said most inmates were released after they agreed to give up their causes."

As for psychwards for dissidents, a college professor who helped me publish my article on the CIA/DEA hitman trial in Knoxville TN, and helped the family keep him in prison after his secret parole hearing, was fired by the Univerity of TN, cheated out of his PhD, then slipped a micky drug in his drink in a bar. The killer is now convicted twice in 2 murder trials, but was paroled 3 years before his parole date, and the killer now works in the DA's office, and the homicide prosecutor was fired and blacklisted forever. All I got was a bullet hole in my car. NY Playboy was going to publish our article, since Playboy had a scholaraship to UT that my professor worked on, but the Chicago office killed it.
Slipping a drug in a bar a great way to get "justification" to lock anyone up in a loonybin. Or rape them on a beach and dump the living body in the ocean, as the Holloways found out in Aruba.
My own disability by kidney damage may be due to someone slipping something in my drink. Though I was exposed to so many poisons in my jobs that it's hard to tell. Or E-coli food poisoning that kills by kidney damage. But the disease had rapid onset, so that seems less like long-term exposure.
Or perhaps I was nailed by the 1,000s of soft-kill weapons everyone is exposed to every day?
The best treatment I've found so far is sauna, what the Native Americans call a Medicine Lodge or Sweat Lodge, what kidney doctors today call "home dialysis". Gross, but did you know that sweat is literally urine, with the same composition, tested by scientists for Olympic athletes? Sauna is what Church of Scientology uses as its secret weapon to cure drug addicts and alcoholics, at $50,000 per treatment. I paid $200 for my home sauna, new, from Commie China. It really works up a sweat.
