Won't get fooled again?
Lessee.
Volcker, Gates, Clinton, Daschle - all this 'change' is making my head spin.

Indeed. Line up the usual suspects.
The only change I expect these next 4 years is the kind that will jingle in my pocket after replacing greenbacks in my wallet.
Do not fear me. Our's is a peaceful race and we must live in harmony.

I haven't seen a lot posts on this topic. The most significant cabinet choices have only been announced in the last few days. I keep hoping he'll opt for some people who'll take things in a different direction, but apart from a modest divergence from Bush doctrine, I'm not seeing it. Looks like the same old, same old.
It looks like that if we expect any of the 'change' we were promised, it will come from intense public pressure. It sure doesn't seem likely from the group of insiders he's picked out so far.

Hello,
I am more interested in the policy he enacts.
I can order the same soldier on a mission to kill or a mission to deliver humanitarian aid.
The soldier's experience may come in handy in either role. It's my orders that produce varied results.

Quote:Obama never really specified exactly how he...sorry...we! would change things. The Unicorns, friendly blue birds, Morgan Freeman, and colored streamers for the may poles will be along shortly. Until then we'll put the Clinton administration back to work....unless!! you'd rather keep the Bush folks in place.

Seriously...it's Clinton's people or Carter's people, or far worse, frickken Bush I or Bush II people. This is specialized work! Career Builder won't help.

That's the conventional wisdom. I'd hoped Obama would give us something besides 'conventional wisdom'.
I don't buy the notion that anyone outside the incestuous DC circle-jerk is doomed to fail. It's been my observation that the very best leaders never get near politics because of the idiocy involved. Obama had a perfect opportunity to attract these very people - change could have happened. But honestly, if Obama was a real threat to shake things up, he'd never have been allowed in office.

Anthony, Chris, et al,
I don't want to be downer. I really, really want to believe we're on the verge of something new. But I just can't get that naive on cue.
What worries me, is that the very real, and potentially productive, anger stewed up the Bush goons could drive us to make real changes for the better. But if we forget that frustration and let go of the energy it provoked - just because DC hires a new decorator - then we've only been suckered again.

Might be a liiiiiitttle bit of an exaggeration there...
The way I see it, you put some key people in key positions, and then tell them WHAT you want to do, and let them figure out most of the HOW it gets done. In order to pull that off, you need people in those positions who (a) know where the levers of power are (and who and what they're connected to), and (b) know how to pull those levers, or better still, get someone ELSE to pull them while thanking the folks behind getting those levers pulled for getting something done.
In other words, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!
Politics is the fine art of getting someone to do something they don't want to do, and then getting them to thank you for making them do it.
By the way, I re-re-metaphored your metaphors. You know what they say: Every time god closes a door, he jumps out a window!

I'm with ya on that score...
By the way, I wonder if Obama has actually started measuring the drapes in the Oval Office yet. ;)

Hello,
Fret not, Sergeant. I watch the President-Elect with a critical eye. I have not forgotten his recent trampling of Civil Liberties with his vote on the FISA bill.
However, neither will I seize upon his every cabinet appointment to play the popular Parker Brothers game: "Jumping To Conclusions."
I will watch and wait, and the truth shall be revealed as it always is - in the fullness of time.

So I'm doing the worst thing, hoping for the best. So besides gathering the villagers, torches, and heading out, I'll just chill and watch closely for a while.

He kinda has to keep Gates, at least for the time being, cause it's too much of a potential disaster to try to bring someone else up to speed on that mess - and given the shit job and utterly idiotic mission parameters he's been tasked with so far, the fact that things are not worse than they are is a credit.
I am hoping Gates has a GOTH* plan handy, which he likely does given his occupation, and we can get our people out by march.
