Because the people they want to watch it have never seen, or likely even heard of, the original - and so, won't have anything to compare it to. And they don't make any money off showing old Brit shows in primetime.
The Psycho comparison doesn't really hold, as it's far more widely-seen by general audiences.

It's always about the money...so very very sad. If only we lived in an ideal world where everyone's TV needs would be met regardless of the potential for network profitability.

1) Life - I like it, but (I hate to say it) I liked it better in the earlier episodes, when Crews was a bit more "zen" - and odder. It's still better than most.
2) Eli Stone - I still love it. I didn't think I'd like it at all, but it hooked me pretty much from the pilot...
3) My Own Worst Enemy - It already feels to me like they're TRYING to give me a headache, much like Heroes and Lost, trying to keep up with all the switcheroos. I still watch every episode, though.
4) Life on Mars - I like it, but don't love it. Not yet, anyway. I'm giving it a chance, though. And now I want to see the original BBC version.
5) Pushing Daisies - as much as I loved the first season, I'm having a hard time getting back into it. One of the risks of a writers' strike, I s'pose - they risk losing viewers just because they kind of "get over" the shows...
But yeah, I'm watching all of those, and more.

Hey Kwicko...I'd like to hear what you think of the original BBC series of Life on Mars if you get a chance to see it. most of the characters are cool, but it's Gene Hunt's baby. and the dialogue will kill you it's so funny.

Agreed. I feel like they're doing to Life a bit of what they did the The John Larroquette Show, if to a lesser degree - dumb it down a notch and grind down the "odd" edges...the American viewing audience just can't be having with that sort of thing.

And on THAT point - maybe I'm just stodgey or too impatient, but I'd like to know what the hell is supposed to be going on between Tidwell and Reese. Perhaps by season's end that deal will be made plain, and I will feel embarrassed with myself for ever having doubted. But for now it just feels like weirdness for the sake of weirdness...which I'm generally down with, but not in this context.

But you gotta admit that it made for a hilarious awkward moment this week.
Crewes with glitter on his face from his old partner's sister. Reese with the wrong gun.
I couldn't stop laughing. At least they made it funny.
I'll agree I liked Crewes better when he was a little more zen. He threw some zen line this past week and it sounded so "right". But that was the only glimpse I saw of last season.
