Everybody that is complaining about Lost doesn't really understand how Lost works. Although J.J. Abrahms was part of the original creation of the story, he does not write the show on a weekly basis. His only involvement in the last couple of years was after the scripts are written they get sent to him, he reads them, and says 'Great', and they move on. He hasn't really been part of the creative vision of the show for several years.
Alias was a different story...

Hey. Just wanted to bump this thread up for when FRINGE comes back on on Tuesday. I can't believe it's been off for two weeks now.
Of the new shows that are on, I've really come to like and enjoy FRINGE a lot, right next to TRUE BLOOD. I tried THE MENTALIST and THE ELEVENTH HOUR, but they're too much like every other CBS procedural to really capture my interest. But FRINGE takes the whole X-FILES model and really makes it its own. And I've been catching up on THE X-FILES recently, and it's interesting to see how much each show reflects it's time. Like how with THE X-FILES, it was all about fear of the government, whereas in FRINGE the government has its hands tied because of a corporation. I imagine if THE X-FILES were on air today, Smoking Man would be a corporate hit man rather than a government spook.
But the thing that's REALLY getting me excited for FRINGE is the dynamic between Peter and Walter Bishop. I've said many times that it really pisses me off to see daddy issues on so many genre shows. Joss is a big proponent of this, and you can also see it on LOST where a lot of characters whine about how they had crappy fathers and that father figures are more villainous than the villains they're fighting.
Which is why it's such a breath of fresh air to see Walter as both a brilliant and insane scientist who at any moment could cut you down, but at the same time a very scared and childlike man. And that Peter is highly reluctant in dealing with this man who has caused so much pain, but slowly comes around to willing to help Walter with his illness and to deal with their relationship. I suppose a lot of people who have parents who are dealing with Altzheimer's could identify with this dynamic.
The Pattern, the accelerated pregnancy and the exploding heads may be icing on the cake. But it's this relation ship that keeps me coming back for more.
Anyone else digging the Walter/Peter plotline? And who else thinks Astrid should get her own episode soon?

I can say for certain I am hooked on Fringe. Not just good writing, but every character gets full treatment. I really enjoy Walter. Showed a lot of courage last night. Wakter and Peter are beginning to understand each other. Fainally a show I like that looks like it will last more then one season.

I followed it until the break a few weeks back and haven't caught the 2 previous episodes. My initial passion for it just faded away. It just seemed like the same old thing over and over. There wasn't enough progression of the main story arch. If I get really bored, I might give it another chance and catch it online.

I've watched this show from the beginning and it seems to be getting better with each episode. I'm also really digging the show's dynamic between Peter and Walter.
Also the whole thing between Olivia and her creepy boss, Blair Brown's character. Good fun!
Also I'm starting to get annoyed with the whole symbols thing. You know after each break. Other than that, it's a really good show.

I actually love the symbols and seeing the different images buried within them. They recently added a new one that's like a puff of smoke. They only showed it the once, so I'd like to see it again to see the buried image within.

Well I found it pretty straight forward and pedestrian to start with as it felt like a jacked-up X-Files, but I must admit it's really starting to intrigue me now. In particular with some of the secondary characters/victims that allude to a more ordered and sinister agenda. Those symbols are great, so J.J. Abrams! Similar to the Darmha symbols on LOST.
