5 Great TV shows that nobody is watching.....

Pushing daisies and Eli Stone top some of my very most favorite shows, Pushing daisies is my favorite show currently on and up there with Firefly for all time favorites.

I saw Life On Mars when it was originally on in the UK and thought it was absolutely fantastic. One of the greats. I then saw the early release pilot of the US version and thought it was terrible, badly acted and a complete rip off. I understand that it has had a big shake up (namely Keitel being brought in) but I still can't bring myself to watch it.
I almost started watching Eli Stone as it is a style of show I like but convinced myself that it would be another show that would get cancelled so I decided not to invest my time. I have heard good things about it and if it gets another season I will play catch up.
I've heard of Life, My Own Worst Enemy and Pushing Daisies but that's about it. And seeing as one of them will probably be cancelled I definitely won't be watching that one. I couldn't find the time to fit them into the rest of my TV schedule anyway.

Bringing in Harvey Keitel was a stroke of genius. He's one of the best parts of the show.
Life on Mars started out "good" for me & has gotten better and better every week. Now I love it. And I thought the flashes between past & present might be cheezy. But they're handled pretty well.
I didn't see the UK version so I guess I can't really be disappointed with this one. That happened to me with 11th Hour. I watched the UK version with Patrick Stewart (sigh, dreamy) on DVD and loved it. After that I couldn't even bring myself to watch the U.S. version. Especially since they started with an identical episode I had watched on DVD. To me, Patrick Stewart can't be topped (except maybe with some whipped cream, but that's an even longer story).

Life is currently on Wednesdays at 9pm Eastern/Pacific on NBC. It is a great show, but don't expect to see Christina that often, she's only been in three of the nineteen episodes so far. She may be seen a bit more frequently now that Mad Men is on a break.

how bout Burn Notice (back in january for second half of second season, but every ep so far has been a blasty blast), The Mentalist, NCIS, and Eleventh Hour? they're good shows too ^_^ i yikes them.

EEEK! there's another version of Life on Mars!!! why? the original version is so good, why mess with it? why do the big networks feel the need to make their own versions of perfectly good Brit and Aus shows? imagine an Australianised version of "Freaks and Geeks" it would not have the same appeal. The only really good "New version" of a Uk show I've seen is "The Office" it rocks in both formats. probably because negative office work culture is a cross-continetal concept. Can anyone think of any other show that's a remake that's any good?

That's the way I see it. If they just kept the basic idea and changed the story and characters (somewhat like what Ashes To Ashes tried) then maybe I could see myself giving it a go but I'm not willing to spend the time to watch a remake.
It would be like the guy who remade Psycho shot-for-shot. What was the point? Why not at least try to do something different with it.
As for your other point I can't think of any other successful shows apart from The Office. Absolutely Fabulous and Red Dwarf tried but those two shows never got off the ground.
I would also like to know if there have been any American shows that have succesfully been remade and had some success in the UK and elsewhere.

I don't believe anyone else but Philip Glenister can do Justice to Gene Hunt...and What is Life on Mars without Gene...he's like Jayne and Mal Reynolds all rolled up into one character. (i.e. a lovable oaf who also happens to be the loved/hated guy in charge).
I did once see a British version of 'Who's the Boss"...it was terrible. The American version of "Kath and Kim" a popular much loved Australian mockumentary series was shown in Aus recently...it tanked after one showing. The Aus version is funny because of what it says about certain parts of Australian culture..."My Name is Earl' is conceptually similar so it's pointless to remake Kath and Kim.
